    Radar Detector Discussion

It has come to my attention that there are two sides when it comes to the infamous debate of which radar detector is better, and that would be Valentine One versus the 9500ix. For those of you who own either, you may find yourself picking a side based on the decision you have made in purchasing.
Being a soon to be ZHP owner, I am too faced with the difficult decision of which radar detector to choose. Car will be driven for a variety of purposes, whether it be the daily commute, going out to eat, or driving across the country.
I'd like your guys' and gals' opinions on which detector I, and many other people, should be choosing. Is there an affirmatively better one?
And feel free to include other RD's in your side, the Escort Max 360, Max II, Redline, and of course many others. And for this discussion lets say budget comes in at around the $500 range, obviously there are more expensive, reliable RD's, but let's save those for another time.
Thanks, and may the best radar detector win!

Whatever you prefer, get the best available at the time of purchase. With a radar detector every split second matters, so buying something that'll give you short warning is pointless. You want to stack the odds in your favour as much as possible, otherwise buying a radar detector is pointless.

The advantage of 9500ix is its GPS, and the ability to use that to teach it where the false alarms are. IMO that's a minor thing. I've got a V1 and I think its ability to show the direction of the signals, as well as track multiple "targets" at the same time is much more useful. I get very few false alarms, but I've also disabled K and X bands as they're never used by cops in my area.

Oh, and I've bought my V1 and (previous) Escort 8500 second hand for less than half the original price. No problems with either. Food for thought.

    This....

I also use V1 and love this feature. My Porsche came with the k40 already installed and I'm about to do the V1 hardwire mod so I can use my V1 in the Porsche as well...

V1's arrows never did anything for me and "multiple bogeys" aren't an issue. If I get one hit on K/Ka band I slow down anyway so no big deal if another threat comes from somewhere else. The GPS lockout on my Escort is a lifesaver in the city for me, thing initially went off on every corner. Now it's chill unless there is actually a cop or a new signal.

Buy used for sure. I've had my 9500xi since 2009, purchased second hand, still going strong. The hardwire is a must too.

WOW is all that I can say
I purchased my own 9500ix yesterday morning from Best Buy, and have been driving around with it since. I'm currently in a restaurant halfway between Chicago and Virginia(to pick up a ZHP!) and have been high tailing it over on route 80E, sometimes hitting the speed limiter on my brothers 2006 530xi(135mp, but that's not why I'm posting this)
No, I'm posting this because of my new radar detector. In the past day or so it had been really helpful surprisingly, and has notified me of a few cops a good distance away. But of course, when there is stationary charger about 1/4mile away NOTHING.
Thank god I was only going 94 in a 70, but it could have been much, much worse. All of a sudden the 9500ix starts beeping it's head off, and lone behold I'm being gunned at that very moment.
So, I will now be returning this $350 "radar detector" and putting the money towards my ticket and court fees.

Radar detectors aren't perfect and if your a lone car with laser then it's not going to work out too well.

Thing is I wasn't a lone car, I was overtaking someone in the left lane with everyone around me flowing at 85:/

I have a Valentine One hardwired using Stealth Assist on my iPhone. Works great and has saved me from getting around 4 tickets over the last year. If they hit you with laser it's instant on and very hard to react fast enough to slow down and not get a ticket. Honestly having a radar detector has taught me to slow down. There is a used Valentine One for sale over on the M3Forum for $380- http://www.m3forum.net/m3forum/showt...ight=Valentine
