I need your help guys.

After telling a friend of mine that tourings are so cool, she called tourings 'mom-mobiles'. After a very stern scolding, she still didn't get the point.

We need to straighten her out. [emoji52]

Man I'd love an M3 touring............

you're just going to have to ignore her.

or let her have a ride in my Touring.

re: the M3T... yes. with bodywork. :)

I met the Peterman this evening for dinner...and also got a ride in his beast of a ZHP touring. You guys wanna know what it sounds like? Watch this video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FZ6Bwr48ytg

thanks man! it definitely sounds like that car. i finally got a chance to do some 1st-3rd gear pulls with the windows down (it was 7C out tonight), and the BMW Performance exhaust is definitely a lot louder than the stock ZHP muffler. i am loving it.

so growly. my car is The Growler 2.0.

My first wagon-love dates back to the 1995-1997 Volvo 850R (f/k/a T-5R), so I’m afraid I’m not much help. A Volvo wagon screams “mom-mobile.” Hell, I’d still love to own one, but after owning a regular 850 I don’t think I’d do it again.

Totally with you, an M3 wagon is what dreams are made of.

again, YES on the M3T! the one BMW built is so cool.

i have always loved volvo wagons, but the one i would own would be a V70R. ohlins suspension!

West coast, west coast, west coast!

haha. maybe!

I think the cool factor of wagons are lost on a lot of people. It's an argument/point of view you'll rarely win. When I showed a friend BMW's one-off M3 touring, she said "why would you ever want a soccer mom car?" Sigh.

yep. only Wagon People get it. considerate it a club.

I guess I need to come back on this forum more often. Can’t believe I haven’t seen all this. Great looking car

thanks stuart! it's a 6MT, ZHP-engined Touring like yours, but otherwise setup very differently. :) i would love to see both cars together!

The funny thing is, the same people who make the "soccer mom car" argument are the ones driving SUVs. Same thing. :rolleyes

LOL, i guess i've got a soccer mom car and an SUV. what does that make me?? ;)

I'll never get tired of looking at your wagon Stu!

agreed, it is definitely one of a kind! :cheers

hmmm.... i think they might look different (better?) on the Touring, because of the roof rails... interesting. i'm going to re-think that. :)

add hellas!

oh heck yes! why didn't i think of that sooner? where would i mount them? in the lower grille? or replace the factory fogs with big hellas (kinda old subaru 2.5RS-like?)?

also, i'm curious to see what you think of the suspension when you drive this (hopefully next month?). it rides really, really well - firm but supple. i'm not on bilstein PSS coilovers now, but the rest of the stuff is from my ZHP and it just feels good. like, so good i don't think i will end up liking the PSS when i put them back on (with linear spring conversion) - but i'm going to try them out nonetheless.

wow that sounds good!!!

to be honest, right now i have plenty of power... i'm having crazy traction issues. granted, it's snowy, and i'm on 215mm-width tires, but the rear end of this car has so little slop (VinceBar and aluminum subframe mounts) that every bit of power goes to the ground. and that means i'm sideways everywhere. :)

it's totally different than my ZHP sedan was with kinda close to the same setup (no VinceBar, and AKG poly subframe mounts).

i wonder how much more it weighs.... longitudinally it would not hang as far forward (V10 vs I6), but if it weighs more.... well, in a Touring that might bring the weight distribution back to 50/50. :) (stock is 49F/51R.)

I actually looked this up a while ago when I stumbled upon that s85 wagon on the inter webs. Apparently the s85 only weighs 60-70 lbs more (if I recall correctly) than the s54. Of course the s54 weighs quite a bit more than the m54.

agreed. and it sounds amazing. it's just the integration work that sucks... in that light, the S54 is always the easiest motor swap for the E46 non-M. but a supercharger for the M54 is even easier. :)

yep, 375 is pretty close - i think i remember reading that the exact weight was something like 348lbs or something - i have actual literature somewhere that lists it. it's pretty light. and the 6MT is only about 80-90lbs.

But with all that extra power, it doesn't matter. Any understeer can instantly be corrected with a dab of throttle.

right, but that doesn't account for actual chassis balance... after driving so many nose-heavy audi products, i'm hooked on 50/50 weight distribution.

So is the “M54 non-forged pistons” hoopla really that big of a deal when adding the extra power from forced induction? Not that I’m looking at it, just wondering.

If anything happens to this motor and the body is still good I’ll do an S54 heart transplant. But LS will happen in a car in my future, because reasons.

I have no worries with my car. I'm shooting for about 315 at the rear wheels when all done so I just need to find another 30 HP.

If you want an LS, I'd skip the S54 and just go for it. Hardware wise, Vorshlag already makes all stuff to put it into an e46. If I had to do it again, that's most likely the way I'd go.

LS1 (a paltry 350hp) would be a better (read: safer) choice than the 430hp LS3. Either way, a Miata with a blublublubpopblublublubpop at idle would be absolutely hysterical.

I saw a build thread where the dude had 15x10s on all four corners because “anything less and I break traction on light throttle.” I think he had a lightly modded LS7.

well, small update:

had the car aligned again this morning - i've been chasing an issue where the car just didn't feel very stable, especially at higher speeds, and the rear end would be a bit squirrelly - and pull to the left - under moderate-to-hard acceleration. i checked my alignment sheet from 12/21/17 when i had it aligned and found there wasn't enough toe-in, either front or rear. and, because i have spherical RTABs, i've heard that even more toe-in in the rear would be a good idea, because they just don't deflect (unlike the stock bushings).

so i went from 1/16" toe-in on each side to 3/32" toe-in (in the rear), with an additional 1/16" toe-in in the front dialed in, and wow - night and day difference! the car is much more stable at highway speeds, and steering feel is greatly improved - much more weight and feel. also, it's only pulling to the left on accel about 15-20% of what it was, which is a huge improvement - and heavy acceleration feels much better.

wow. toe-in, i love you.

now, i will be getting some GC camber/caster plates in the spring when i install my bilstein PSS coilovers with linear spring conversion, and i will dial in more positive caster (currently running a little under spec, actually), and a tiny bit more negative camber up front. so another alignment. but i'm happy with how things are feeling now.... and excited for the linear-sprung bilstein PSS!

Ordered some cheap sound deadening insulation off amazon and installed last night under the rear seat bottom, as the factory stuff crumbled to bits when I had it apart for the overhaul.

It came as a big sheet, and I just cut this piece as large as I could without impacting seat bottom fitment. Did 3hrs on the highway this morning, and it’s remarkably quieter! Amazing for $20. it's mostly foam, about 10mm thick. adhesive on one side.

Sitting here in Ontario with some Tim Hortons and a buttload of snow, it seems like a good time to share my thoughts after driving the Radio Flyer...nay...The Red Growlour allover Toronto yesterday:

It is obnoxious in the most wonderful way.

y tho, u ask?

It is bright red and red is a stupid color.

The BMWP exhaust sounds perfect. Not loud at all, just lets a little more growl out for the world to hear.

The suspension is tight and yet compliant. The rigidity of the body with the vincebar beefiness lets the suspension do all of the work in absorbing bumps, so there is no rattling/creaking/signs of this car being 13 years old.

The ZHP steering, power, and interior is all there...but in a wagon

The shifter is ridiculous when you first look at it, then even more so when you feel how close the gears are. But it all makes sense when it comes time to drive the car with purpose.

The power is immediately put to the ground since it has no rubber bits to load up. You just press the go pedal and it just fricken goes.

The drivetrain is so connected that, when you step on the gas, you get this heavy, menacing growl.....inside your skull. I swear the image of a lion popped into my mind during an aggressive 1>2. The weird part is that it's not loud exhaust or intake noise or really anything that you can pinpoint. The sound from the whole drivetrain as a unit is channeled through the entire frame and surrounds you. You are now one with the growl, whether you like it or not. I probably said it a dozen times last night and will keep reiterating:

It is obnoxious in the most wonderful way.

Great to hear a review from a third party. I always like to let people drive my car for their opinion.... perhaps they may see or feel something I'm not ... be it good or bad, it's always nice to have a second opinion.
I definitely gotta tighten up my drivetrain like that. All of the windup/slop in the drivetrain has always gotten on my nerves, even when I got the car with only 44k on the clock.

It is obnoxious in the most wonderful way.

awesome. thanks for that, and i'm so glad you got to drive it.

the red growlour. LOuL.

and yeah, red is a bit stupid. i have a real love/hate relationship with it.

Great to hear a review from a third party. I always like to let people drive my car for their opinion.... perhaps they may see or feel something I'm not ... be it good or bad, it's always nice to have a second opinion.
I definitely gotta tighten up my drivetrain like that. All of the windup/slop in the drivetrain has always gotten on my nerves, even when I got the car with only 44k on the clock.

rob, since you have a supercharger - you're that kind of guy - i'm going to wager a guess that you would really dig how my car feels. since we already have the same engine and trans mounts... you just need to do the rear end. what do you have for diff/subframe/RTAB mounts? i feel like the BEST mod for the whole car is the bimmerworld spherical RTABs, because they just help the power get to the ground better - there's no binding (poly) or loading/winding up (rubber).

The whole rear is OEM... the diff bushings were replaced like, 80k ago so I'm sure their shot. I do have M3 RTAB with limiters but that's it for rear subframe refresh. I need to refresh the whole drivetrain from the clutch back.
I'll definitely be following your lead on all that...

Awesome review! You're right in that the car has no creaks or rattles at all - or even if they are there, its all overcome by the GROWLLL!!

sure! here ya go... it's now $31, but still worth it - way cheaper than dynamat or something like that. plus there's some leftover so you put other bits elsewhere (door panels to stop rattles, etc):

replaced the MAF last night... it threw an 'air mass system' code and i had a spare, so 10min later, 'new' MAF. cleared the codes last night after installing. this morning, i feel like it's pulling harder up top. could be placebo.

Hey Peterman, mind if I ask why you chose a foam type deadener in lieu of the traditional butyl type? When I do the M3 mirrors I’m going to load this rust bucket up with more damping, and I’m curious about this stuff.

two reasons:

1. price
2. availability (being in canada makes things more difficult when it comes to product choice)

it comes in varying thicknesseseses, but i chose the thickest i thought i could fit under the rear seat without having fitment issues.

i have a decent amount of experience in recording studios, so i know foam works well to absorb sound.

Makes sense to me. And absolutely yes about foam’s sound absorption, just never thought of it being used in automotive. I used something similar to give my bass drum more punch, whereas snares and toms used something more similar to the butyl to cut down reverberations on the heads.

I wish it came in slightly larger sheets than 40x60, but I’ll give it a shot. Thanks.

Yep! Well, I haven’t in quite some time, but I THINK I can still dabble lol. I have a decent electric kit now, but I just haven’t made the time to play in what feels like years. I had a beautiful maple kit from a custom drum maker in Ohio, but sold them for the electric drums because (a) the noise literally scared the pee out of the dogs, and (b) living in apartments isn’t acoustic drum-friendly.

I grew up playing saxophone and guitar, but drums are the only instrument I have retained any real ability to play. Vox makes a small tube amp I plan to buy this year and pick the guitar back up. Fingers crossed...

i can appreciate that - we bought an electric kit a few years ago (yamaha DTX520K). i really wanted an acoustic kit but the noise aspect was crucial as if i wanted to play at night, i obviously didn't want to wake the kids. side benefits are running music in through the AUX input so you can play along with stuff, and direct-out for recording has been handy for sure. my son plays too and he is really good.

i do find that with the electric kit, i'm less inspired to play than with an acoustic kit. so someday, when i have the right place to put one (soundproofed room in the basement kinda-thing), i will get one.

awesome. tube amps or bust! i regret selling the handmade budda superdrive 80-II that i had years ago, but it was an 80w head that i ran through a custom 2x12 cab, as well as marshall JCM900 4x12 cabs when i was doing the band thing... and it was just way too loud for apartment life. the TONE, though!! oh man, it could do everything, and the sensitivity was incredible. now i've got a bogner alchemist 1x12 20/40w tube combo that is pretty decent... i'm not 100% happy with the tone but it's better than most modern tube amps i've played. i should get back into a budda superdrive 18 1x12 combo...

anyway. i love gear. i don't play guitar as much as i would like to, but i do play regularly at church... i'm allowed a lot of leeway there, and encouraged to provide all sorts of cool ambient textures and high gain craziness. which is totally my jam!

I attribute my poor hearing to playing along with music via headphones. You really have to crank it in order to hear over an acoustic set, especially one with shells as loud as mine.

Oh man, JCM900 is a blast from my high school days. I was on the fence between a Mesa/Boogie Single Rectifier and Marshall 50w JCM900 half stack before ultimately making the switch to drums instead. Now I’m looking at just a small, 5-15w tube combo for the house. Vox, Orange, and Fender all make an amp which would fit that requirement, I just need to hear them all. I’ll probably go Orange or Vox, and swap over to soapbar pickups when I restore my Strat. One day...one day I’ll own a Paul Reed Smith...one day.

LOL, no worries man! musical threadjacks are OK in this thread. :)

a small tube amp like that will be perfect for home use. because you can crank it and not break windows. :) (and cranked is where they sound the best. :))

i owned a PRS about 20 years ago. i was fortunate enough to get a steal on one - i knew a guy growing up who was basically the #1 wooden bird carver in the world... and if you know PRS, you know that they had inlays of birds in the neck on some models. well, since this bird carver guy was pretty darn arrogant (and also a huge guitar enthusiast), he contacted PRS and told them their bird inlays were not anatomically correct, and offered to 'fix the glitch' (can you believe that?)... anyway, PRS accepted the offer and the arrogant guy ended up making 10 one-off guitars with PRS with giant eagle faces or something carved into the back of the body, behind the bridge. so weird. they sold for like $40K each. anyway, because of his partnership with PRS - and because i knew the guy - i was able to get a PRS custom 22 for almost half price (so, like $1200 i think - this was back in 1998).

i had the guitar for about a year or so, played out with it, recorded with it... and while it kicked butt, it was just missing something - it was too, i dunno, sterile. so i was in a local boutique guitar shop in burlington, VT one day and they had a guild nightbird hanging up. i loved the design and style, and after playing it... i knew that was the one. so i made a deal on trading in the PRS towards it. i think the guild was tagged at $1600. it's 1/50, hand-made, has tone chambers inside, etc. i immediately replaced the pickups - duncan '59 in the neck position and a PRS 'HFS' in the bridge. that PRS HFS is thick and smooth. i love it. anyway, the guitar just has feel to it that i've never experienced elsewhere... and i've had it for 19 years now! crazy. it's been through a lot and has taken serious abuse. and still sounds killer.

also, i just can't seem to get warm to the OEM euro clear lights and BMW Performance grilles, so i removed them and went back to ambers and chrome grilles. loving it.

The bird inlays are half of what make a PRS so beautiful. And I get what you mean about sounding sterile—the solid body models are almost too perfect. I want a Hollowbody II in McCarty Sunburst. But they’re stupid expensive. And that Guild sounds amazing.

ha. well... i DO like black grilles, but i feel like on the red... the chrome looks better. it's weird. i love the gloss black shadowline on the doors, etc - but on the nose of the car... the black grilles just dominate and i don't feel like it's balanced enough. somehow, on red, with the chrome grilles and amber corners, it just looks 'right' to me - more balanced. on other colors the black grilles and euro clear corners look perfect.

I was greeted to a surprise Friday morning, taking my daughter to her bus stop for school at 6:45... it was apparently -40C. My, that is a lot colder than I thought it was. Then about a kilometer down the road, it was +50C. What the heck is going on? Then, -40C after the next bend. It was like I was in the twilight zone.

I knew our winter has been weird, but this is just TOO weird. Then these rapid temperature changes were accompanied by beeping.... At this point, I realized my car was the problem, and not the weather. And I knew it was bad.

I pulled over and popped the hood, and found - you guessed it - the engine was missing. Frig. Just my luck.

After I pushed the car home - I found this - all that was left of the engine: an outside temperature sensor probe, with the wires sheared off. Huh.

awesome, glad you liked it charlie! :)

just crested 233K KM last night, that's about 7K KMs since i did the swap. almost ready for the next oil change (i usually change around 8K KM - or 5K miles), this time with trevor's crazy lubrimoly ceramic unicorn tear potion - curious to see the oil consumption (which is about 1L/3500KM at the moment) results.

also, i ordered some 250lb/in 7" 2.5" ID hyperco springs for the front of my bilstein PSS (to go with my 500lb/in rears and rogue articulating perches)... thinking about ordering some ground control hybrid caster/camber plates so i can dial in more caster up front (i'm actually a little under factory spec now, which i don't like - assuming it's the poly FCABs - as stock bushings have a lot of flex and likely add positive caster... although Z4M FCABs would remedy this for a lot less $$$ - especially considering i have a set already... might try them out soon), and gain about 19mm more strut travel up front - that's huge!

also sold The Tank yesterday. just didn't have time to fix the fuel leak, so i listed it as-is, for a steal, and it was gone in a couple of days. i took a bath on it though. but that headache is off my plate, which at this point, is almost worth the loss.

yep. i liked it. but then it became a PITA. one nice thing about driving rare/enthusiast vehicles is that they tend to sell quickly.

also, how the hell do you get 19mm more travel out of the strut? that seems like too many

ha. they raise the fastening point of the strut to the top mount, relative to the stock top mounts - and thus you gain strut travel. 19mm is a lot of travel, but with bilsteins that is a good good thing as they generally do not offer a lot of travel in their inverted piston setups like the PSS/PSS10 due to the internal bumpstop.

no updates here as the car has been sitting at a secure parking lot in montreal since thursday the 15th... i've just finished driving across the US in a 26' uhaul with my brother-in-law, and up through utah/idaho/oregon/washington, and finally into BC yesterday. unloaded the 26' truck - including his '73 beetle, which was IN the uhaul - in 3.5hrs yesterday. it took about 3 days to pack the thing back in VT!

flying home sunday. missing my wife and kids like crazy. hopefully my car is in the same condition as i left it when i get there sunday night.

That's the game we had to play when we loaded up my buddy's Tacoma bed with a full NB interior (seats and door panels), a dash, lots of extras, and a full set of BBS RC wheels (with tires mounted). We were quite proud of ourselves.

haha... yeah, a little more roll... :rofl

moving sucks. and when i move next, which is likely this summer, i am going to purge like crazy. i need to start now!

if we move to belleville (35min away from where we are now), i will hire a friend who has a moving company to move our stuff.

if we move to BC, i will likely toss/sell half of our stuff and re-buy stuff out there. the sad part is that the garage probably comprises 30% of the house stuff we'd move.... :ducking

oil change on friday @ 233,899KM. 5w40 lubrimoly synthetic with lubrimoly CERATEC treatment - excited to see what this does, as trevor uses it in his M3 and sees very little oil usage (if any?). this was also the first time i've removed the top part of the G.A.S. CCV to inspect it, and it was super clean - no mayo buildup. i AM using oil again though (it stopped when i ran my custom catch can setup), so i want to test out some different vacuum diaphragms from gary @ G.A.S.

also added a can of lubrimoly fuel system cleaner.

also also, i reinstalled my v4.5 LCM and got some awesome NCSExpert coding instruction from BP; we reset the LCM to factory defaults, then set triple link, high beam trifecta, brake force display stage 2, DRL tweaks (full parking lights - that's it), and double-blink hazzard lights. very excited to be up to speed with NCSExpert... will be getting to DSC coding next. :)

Peter, I tried Ceratec for the first time on my last oil change on the S54 engine. I liked the results I saw. I'm doing rod bearings soon on my Z4M, and I was using the Ceratec like an insurance policy against a spun bearing until I can get it done. The S54 engine is not quiet and sounds like a sewing machine when running, and Ceratec quieted it down. I do regular Blackstone oil analysis, and all of my metal wear numbers were lower after Ceratec. If you do oil analyses, it will show up as elevated boron in the report. Right now, I'm running 10W60 Lubrimoly with MOS2 in the S54. I also used their engine flush on the M54 ZHP engine, and was really impressed with the results. My oil has remained amber after that flush and fill, so it must have really dislodged most of the gunk.

Are you planning to do MOS2 as they suggest for the next few oil changes, then go back to Ceratec? I believe that was their recommendation - Ceratec every 30K and MOS2 for the interim oil changes.

very cool, thanks for all of that info salty!

yep, i am planning to use their MoS2 every oil change until the ceratec interval is up. that engine flush sounds interesting, as my oil gets dark pretty quickly.

how is your oil consumption in the S54 since using the ceratec?

SaltyNC

how is your oil consumption in the S54 since using the ceratec?

I guess I got lucky in that my S54 (54K miles) has never used oil and hasn't started after using Ceratec, and the ZHP M54 (160K miles) engine doesn't use any oil to speak of other than what is seeping from the OFHG that I plan to replace soon.

Is Ceratec supposed to help with oil consumption? I just used it for the anti-friction benefit.

I wanted to post these pics of the First Opening Of The GAS CCV since installing last December.

Overall - oil consumption returned with this compared to my catch can setup, which confirms that the increased crankcase vacuum does indeed help the rings seal better and significantly decrease blowby. However, Gary @ GAS confirmed that said increased vacuum is bad for the rear main seal, so it’s a trade off. He may have other vacuum diaphragms I can try to increase vacuum slightly.

Anyway - the important news here is that the GAS CCV does work as advertised. As you can see from the pictures, there is some mayo build up in the exit port on the valve cover, and that is it! The maze works and there is zero mayo in the CCV - which means zero mayo entering the intake manifold - and this was running it all winter! These pics are “as opened” - I didn’t wipe anything down first.

For maintenance, I cleaned the mayo out of the valve cover exit port - q-tips work great here - and wiped down the mating surfaces, and that was it. Very pleased.

heh. it looks better in person. if i decide to keep it this way... i either have to make some filler caps for the holes in the trim, or buy the stupid expensive non-roof rail trim, which is like $320. but it would allow me to use my OEM sedan roof rack, which would be nice - because i do put stuff on the roof occasionally.

yeah, it does look bald, for lack of a better term. the combination of ARC-8s and shadowline make it look a bit more aggressive without the rails. and it definitely looks lower and wider.

yep, that's what my research shows as well. i likely wouldn't paint them, but might wrap them in some vinyl that is gloss black, to match the door trim. it's definitely the nicer way to go (buying new trim).

lubed the AKG FCABs today after work with some silicone grease... they were bone dry. i'm a dummy (used PFTE lube before for some reason.... tired?... it disappeared). no more creaky-creaky.

installed a new trans-to-exhaust brace. my original one from the ZHP was rusted and broken, and the one from my Touring was rusted and broken. ;) bought a new one and installed.

and installed the new custom Tall Boy alcantara shift boot from mike @ coby. looks proper now.

also.... first time i had been under the car, really, since i finished the swap back in december, and man..... sure nice to see it nice and dry under there! oil pan gasket and RMS are leak-free. yay.

did a 3.5hr road trip tonight with the fam. easy cruise at 120km/h (75mph).....family of four and luggage... the car did 8.0L/100km (roughly 29.5mpg). not bad.

over n' out.

Now that I have internet connection at my new place, I can start to shit-post all over your thread :)

Must be an awesome thing to see the bottom of your car all clean and dry! The absolute best fuel mileage I have ever received on my car during one of my YOW to YYZ trips was 7.4/100KMs. I guess I might have had some tailwind and perfect road conditions.

I love that you still use the obnoxious growlour for family trips. Why didn't you take the X3? I imagine it's more comfortable for the wife/kids.

That's some sick mpg's for a >4k lb vehicle with all that ass in there.

hahaha! only if you post from the garage, though. :)

yeah, i've had some tanks around 7.4-7.5 before, but that was in my sedan (lighter, more aerodynamic), and with the 3.07 rear end. i've gotta give up some fuel economy for utility. :)

yep, agreed!

the X3 is a great road tripper for sure, because it is a bigger cabin and is softer to drive.... but we didn't take it this time for a few reasons:

1. the handbrake isn't working right now - both shoes delaminated (still scratching my head over that one), and i haven't got the replacements yet
2. no lumbar support (yet; i'm retrofitting it) - i'm doing 13-14hrs of driving on this trip, so my back needs all the help it can get
3. worse fuel economy
4. i gotta mix it up every once in a while and prove that the growlour can still do it all. ;)

Can I not? It’s a 330i which is “substantially similar” to a model sold in the US...

Truth be told, I’m flirting with the really bad idea of importing an E30. From what I’ve seen, non rusted out examples don’t command near the premium elsewhere they do in the US.

If you need someone to keep an eye out, let me know.

While in US the most desirable order is touring-->sedan-->coupe/vert, in Europe it's totally opposite. There are more e46 tourings than anything else.

Finding a rust free E30 in Germany will be a tall order. I'm following close another Estoril e46 but it's very crispy.

Nah, they were power w/o heating. My 95 M3 had manual vaders and I loved them because, other than being hella light, you couldn't nitpick with getting the seat juuuuust right. You had your click and if it didn't feel right, you moved to another click half an inch down. No in between to bother with.

How many times do you actually adjust the seat after you get it dialed in? Although, key memory for the seats is a nice feature if you have multiple drivers of different sizes

hey guys.

it has been a while since i've been on. things have been crazy for me... here's a synopsis:

- my wife and i almost separated in early august; it's been touch and go since then, but i feel like we're on the mend finally. this has been the hardest thing i've ever gone through, ever.
- busy with the kids and their activities
- working like mad
- driving a lot

i felt in my gut back in january that 2018 was going to be a huge year, and so far it certainly has not disappointed in the drama category. i realized that i need to make a lot of changes - to my marriage, my family life, my work, my hobbies... everything. i need to achieve BALANCE - because right now, and really for the last i don't know how long, i've been out of balance. and it's definitely effed up my life.

so, i've started balancing with my marriage, kids, and my work has seen some time cuts. and finally... cars. with a massively heavy heart, i have decided to sell the Touring. it is huge fun to drive and has been reliable to a fault when i needed it the most this year, but when i built it i feel like i neglected my wife.... and man, i just can't stop thinking about that every time i drive it. and i can't get past that. so i haven't advertised it anywhere yet but i want to advertise it here first, before it goes elsewhere - maybe every BaT. i would love for a fellow 'mafia member to get to own, drive and enjoy the snot out of my riotous creation (....and also maybe so i can get visitation rights. ;)).

anyway. onward and upward with balancing and revitalizing what is good in my life... and i have missed being on here and bantering with my 'mafia brethren. i hope everyone is well!

i guess i should post some recent work on this beast:

- currently at 254K KMs (156K miles)
- oil change at 252K KMs with shell rotella T6 5w40 and lubrimoly MoS2 additive
- replaced all 4 brake calipers with remanufactured units
- replaced rear brake rotors
- replaced handbrake shoes and refurb'ed hardware
- brake bleed with motive pressure bleeder (brakes have never felt this good - they feel mega)
- replaced UUC black trans mounts (stiff!) with fresh M3 trans mounts (thanks nate!) - it's quieter and way less NVH now

it's been a real workhorse for me over the last year. since our merger at work, i've been going into toronto 1x per week (sometimes staying overnight), which is roughly 500KMs round-trip (310 miles). i've been working tons and shuttling my kids around, and this thing hasn't skipped a beat. but... i'm not surprised when i've replaced/refreshed nearly every mechanical item on the car.

Peter,

I give you my heartfelt thanks for sharing. Glad things are on the mend. You're not alone.... Typically we're all going through "something" and I'm glad you felt comfortable enough with us to share.

We're rooting for you.... 100%

took my last drive in this car under my ownership yesterday morning. but, alas... the new owner is awesome! and it will get enjoyed for all of the many uses this versatile car has. :)

Hug your loved ones tonight, boys.
