Damn. I thought NJ was bad. We got hit with that storm yesterday but it was only 3 inches. 3 inches and I was completely aggravated by it. I hate the snow and cold weather in general.

It's because the French language makes an english sentence twice as long. It's the same as a French Canadian snow storm....twice as much. :D

This is my trunk. I scratched out the salt a little on my right license plate light to show how much crap there is on my car. My license plate is usually white. My wheels haven't been cleaned since November. Imagine 6 months of brake dust on style 44's. They're essentially black now. I don't clean my car in the winter since it gets dirty the moment I leave the driveway... I do hose it down from time to time, but I probably chose the wrong color to do that. LOL

I'm giving it a full detail and summer wheels next Monday. FINALLY! :biggrin

There are some questionable items they sell, but it's not them who make it. The Depo sidemarkers are pretty shoddy with their seals, but it's good to know that the grilles are of a good quality. I plan on buying them in the future.

I love their service though for sure.

I'm telling you guys...OEM or bust. If I wanted to have gloss black grilles, I could have kept my prefacelift hood and gone this route, but I went with the OEM hood, had it painted and bought the Performance grilles. Never been happier and with my discount at the dealer for being a CCA member, I only spent $104. Easy money for OEM.

I'm glad everything worked out with you, Devlin. But speaking from my own experiences with aftermarket grilles and lights, OEM is going to be the best quality and have the best fitment, it's something that I knew going into owning a BMW, and I am fully prepared to pay whatever it costs to avoid buying twice.

Dave_B
03-27-2013, 04:28 PM
For the cost, why not plasti-dip them? Then you have OEM fitment, and a reversible black color.

I thought someone mentioned a "glossifier" of sorts for plasti-dip if you wanted a glossy look.

I'm with you on this one, my aftermarkets don't fit like my OEM's. If they were not broken (the OEM's) I would just plasti-dip them. I don't care about them being glossy, the only thing glossy black on the car is the shadow-line trim. The black bumper and side strips are not glossy...

That glossifier stuff stems to work pretty well though, I watched a video about it one day...

johnrando
03-27-2013, 04:44 PM
My .02. I went OEM perf grilles and love 'em. I'm not OEM crazy but for certain things where fitment is key, I'd rather go OEM. I can't comment on the quality of the other types of grills as I haven't owned them. It was worth the extra coin for me to have the OEM peace of mind in this case. Also, buying another set keeps my original set ready to go if I want/need to switch back. As far as plasti-dip, I guess I'm just not down with that miracle in a can. Nothing at all negative to those who use it, I personally would just rather not on my car, so that wasn't an option for me. It's my guess (but I don't know) that the OEM Perf. Gloss Black would look better close up than the plasti-dip. To each his/her own though. :thumbsup EDIT: And as far as glossy, matte black would not look right on my jet black. If you don't care about glossy, that opens up options.

^get the piano black ones! I wish I got them, but they literally updated their site with them the day I got and installed my matte ones. I was so mad since that's what I wanted and didn't want to spend the $$ on the performance ones at the time, so I settled for the matte.

I took some more photos of it however my phone is dead. Once I recharge my phone I'll post the details of it when I can. Regarding the lift it was at my friend's auto body garage. It's good for about a 5ft lift. It's hydraulic and electric. Pretty cool thing if you want to do some under body work or suspension work.

Pretty sure it is one of these two. My guess is the first one since it went under all four of the jack pads. -

There isn't a bumper on the car right now. If I separated them and attached the bumper bar it might be legal, but it physically cannot start now, she's been under the knife for a DME swap for the meantime.

If the bumper is off, meaning the bumper COVER, it's fine, yes. But he doesn't have his front reinforcement on. If he were to get into an accident, what is stop his car from having its front end absolutely destroyed?

BP,
You are correct, and its not just BMWs, I can count the number of cars/trucks I've owned for longer than 2 years on one hand, honestly. I'm afflicted with a vehicle "want something different" disorder. I blame my dad for that because he always bought a car and drove it into the ground, got every penny out of it, I told him I'd never do that. My cars don't normally stay a year in my stable, I stopped keeping track of how many cars I've had when I passed 150 and that was around when my daughter was born (she turned 11 recently).

The imola ZHP vert has set a new record for a non-SUV in our family right now because we've had it 2.25 years, but its not mine, its the wife's, not sure that really counts. I've been prodding her to let me sell it, maybe look at a 6 conv or a 911, but today it was warm enough for her to put the top down and she said she wants to keep it at least thru this summer.

I ask myself the same question every day :( I just can't remember where the hell I got it. It was about 2 yrs ago...
It MIGHT have been Advance auto, I have to go and check again...
It feels and looks great, supple and adds some nice thickness...I want to get one for my wife's new car too...

But I know 100% it was one of the big auto parts stores...AAP, AZ, Oreilly or Pep boys.
I just have to go to each one of them and look around - will update if I ever come across it again and let you know. :)

OMG Bruce up there, you take care of 4 BMWs?

With almost all my non-working and non-soccer dad hours. There are mods at the front of the garage that I haven't found the time to install yet -- 3.38 non-LSD for Preston's car, UUC sways for Preston (part of his bday present for April 20th, he knows about them, he picked them up with me), 3 pedals for Brett, test out a Dinan TB on one of them, etc., etc. My 2 kids at home play travel soccer which tends to be my Sundays, so Saturdays are yard work and car maintenance fun days. The offer is out there to the local guys to stop by any Saturday, we'll find something to work on. Or I'll put you on the riding mower, JD with a beer holder, ask Gary how much fun he had.

Well, to be honest, I wasn't planning on it, but it proved much easier for the intake install. Plus, I took William's bumper off this past weekend in California, so now its a breeze. It literally took me 20 minutes without jacking up the car. I also figured while I had it off, I could redo the front lower grille and get rid of that nasty whitish buildup/look that forms all the time.
