I was going to drive back home and pick up my dad from the airport, but I ended up not. It was pouring rain and the roads were as saturated as they possibly can be. My car felt unstable, and overall, I felt unsafe. The car drifted around way too easily, though it kept its track; DSC never engaged, so I was gripping the road, but something simply felt wrong compared to when it's dry. I felt that any sudden movement of my steering wheel would cause strong oversteer. I was only driving about 50 mph on the highway. So, I did the smart thing: turned around and went right back to my apartment. I called my mom and let her know that she needed to pick him up instead. I'm not going to risk wrecking my car that I worked so hard for, other peoples' cars that they worked hard for, and maybe put my dad in danger.
My rear tires are at the wear bars

I feel unsafe in the rain. Could I do the North Carolinean thing and just get away with driving on bald tires and drive like a maniac? Sure could, but I care way too much about my safety to do that. The risk of hydroplaning is simply not worth it, and DSC isn't going to save me if I have no traction. It's definitely time for new tires. But I don't have $1,000 to spare :/
My local bimmer shop will do Continental DWS installed for $910. I absolutely will need an alignment afterwards, and I also
have to do FCABs if I want an alignment that's even worth it. I'd rather get 4 new tires with 560 treadwear and a 50k treadwear warranty for $1000 than 2 new RFT tires for $700 with 140 treadwear and no warranty.
If I can do BillMeLater, I can easily get myself 4 new tires without a problem. Since it's 0% APR for 6 months, I can spread those payments out every month. No problem at all. I consider myself financially responsible enough to be able to do this. I'm going to consult with my dad to get his input on if I should do this or not. Ugh, I wish tires weren't so expensive! It's the 255/40/18 that kills me: those suckers are expensive.
