Search for DIY aux-in & you should find the info & circuit diagram.
Ohh Thanks for the info crickett! I dont think its necessery to put resistor. I'm fine with that.

Pretty much, the xi's have a different front frame brace so theirs is different with an actual center jack pad and regular e46 99-01 have the circle type front jack point. 02+ have that oval bit that crushes if you try to jack from it

You realize the DICE module box has an aux input on it right? At least mine (Silverline) does... That's on my project list for this weekend, install an 1/8" aux cable for Pandora streaming when I don't want the iPod.

Would a piece of wood that is correct oval shape seated inside the oval be acceptable as jacking pad so as not to crush the oval ring? Or is the brace even strong enough as a jacking point?

How do you select the aux mode and can you switch between aux mode and ipod with the HU?

It would certainly help I bet. I've just used a ~8" strip of 2x4 (laying around) laterally across that area when jacking from there to distribute the load.

I'm also not taking responsibility if you squash it or yourself ...

Go to Disc 5, then track 2. switches between iPod and Aux inputs. When in AUX mode the other discs change to be Gain, Bass EQ, Mid EQ, Treble EQ
