Yeah I like that. Remember to orient the jackstand "release" lever outboard.

Doesn't look like it's all that important on those stands as they utilize "pinned" holds

    Def good practice though.

Today I bought redline 75w-90, Oil sending/sensor unit, oil sender gasket, 2 new belts. All for less than $100. So that means diff fluid change, replace faulty sensor (yellow oil light comes on randomly, and when full of oil) and replace both belts in the car for less than $100. DIY FTMFW!!! I bet that saved me $500. If it wasnt for ZHPMafia, I wouldnt have started DIY'ing the ZHP. Thanks everyone.

The degree of uncertainty and confusion about proper jacking techniques for the E46 is pretty remarkable. I'm not pointing fingers, I'm definitely in the 'confused' camp myself.

I put her on ramps, then jack from the "frame" rail behind the control arm bushing mounting bolts, and set her down on jackstands underneath the factory side jack points. Between the two jackstands, two ramps, etc....I feel safe under the car and am confident that I'm using secure points......but there are better ways to do it for sure. What I particularly don't like about my method is the angle (left to right) put on the car when one side is on the jackstand and one side is still on the ramp. Too much movement for my taste. You could remedy this with two jacks...this is definitely in the plan but I need to save up for it.
Presently, I would use the two jacking points (rubber blocks) with 2 X 4 and slide my jack stands under the rails. One side at a time. To my understanding, the rubber jacking points have a designated block to be used with the hollow rubber points. There is a specific terminology for those mounting blocks.

Actually, at least with my Rhino brand ramps, you have to face one of them "backwards" because it's a close fit between clearing the bottom of the ramp and lining up with the jack point. Not a big deal though, it's still easy to pump and get to the release valve. I imagine if you trimmed a hair off the edge of the ramp it would probably clear it ok.

Finally got the car on the lift today to change out the fuel filter.

    She's happy now.

That's nearly 63K on the original filter.
