Yep, I did a transfer like this... Not that bad of weather, but took a RHIB from one ship to another, about 10-12' swell... I also did a helo transfer too.

Three years ago out here we hit a nasty storm and got beat up for 3 days straight... That was 90+ winds and 50-60' seas... Nothing like seeing blue water come over the side of a ship that has 40' of freeboard...

    Joop,

I can only imagine how that would look! I was in similar seas back in '96 when I was onboard a Los Angeles class submarine in the North Irish Sea transiting out from Scotland. It was on New Year's day and the seas were 50' swells....talking about a rough ride! We couldn't submerge for 8 hours until we got into an area where we owned the water space beneith us. I was on watch in the sonar shack so I got to see the screens and hear the ocean rush past us thru the hull...

Once we submerged it was all good and everyone got much better afterwards. I can only imagine how you guys have to deal with the constant pitching and rolling in heavy seas.....just be safe out there!

I think that would be the worst Charlie. That fact that in theory you could have a smooth ride but because of the rules every one had to deal with it.

Vs being on a ship with no option to submerge and get under the weather!

Agreed Devlin but as much as it sucked and "we" all had to deal with this, that particular trip cured my seasickness. After that, I never got seasick. Remind me to tell you the whole story the next time we meet up That was a very fun and interesting deployment for sure! As I have said, I can't imagine for the guys/gals who are on ships having to endure the full effect of a heavy sea state....I always hope they will be safe in those waters...

Poor Joopy, the biggest swell of the winter is about the hit the West Coast and he's stuck smack in the middle of it. In fact, the Maverick's International Big Wave contest has been called for tomorrow. There will be a live web cast of it. 40+ foot waves are expected.

Hang in there Joops! It's going to be bumpy.

Yeah I will stick with my long board and the little 2-5 footers over here. Lol

40 plus feet is insane. The winning ride a few years ago was 65ft. And I believe the winner get $1,000 per ft for the winning wave.

Picked up a used, slight broken cargo net off eBay for $7 (shipped). One of the hooks is broken so I did the "zip tie fix". Serves my purpose and the price was right.
