Update on repairing the license plate light. I dropped the trunk liner and disconnected the trunk grip mechanism. Heat gun, flat tip and non-marring pry tool did the rest.
There are 8 tabs on the painted cover. There is also some type of adhesive.

Removed the hood insulation. Something may have been living in there!

I broke clips trying to get mine apart yesterday, I have the unpainted piece and going to see how much to get painted tomorrow. My other thought was vinyl carbon fiber wrap. Up for suggestions.

Wrap might be a good (cheap?) option. I think the key to getting it apart was the heat Justin recommended.

I'm still looking for recommendations on how best to repair/replace the right license light fixture.

i had the same issue with the license plate light on mine - it was very badly corroded. i ended up fixing it for about $3 in parts.

i don't have any pics (i don't take them while i work on stuff ), but what i ended up doing was buying a small generic lamp at the auto parts store (with a similar-sized bulb), and then mounting it to the original gray plastic piece (that has the hole burned through it - mine had the same hole!).

i'll see if i can pop the assembly out and get a pic for you. took me an hour but was well worth the effort (and cost savings).

Thanks Peter. Not a bad idea. Did you solder the wires to the other side?

She passed VA safety and emissions inspection today. Also titled in VA and registered at DMV.
