I've got a 1983 320i that has been a project for a long time. I got it running-ish a year ago but free time became a scarce commodity and I could never really get down to restoring it.

It was owned by an older fellow who lost the title. My original plan was to restore it a just file a lost title claim. Then it changed to making it a track car. Now I'm just tired of seeing the poor thing sit there.

The paint is faded, interior in decent condition but dusty. (welcome to NM) It's all original and was a great lil car. But, I just don't have the time or shop for it and by the time I do, it'll be a pile of rust in the desert.

Dude, I recently "Frankenstitched" together a tear in my plastic underpanel that came from the crash. I thought that was creative, but it doesn't hold a candle to what you did with that spring.

That wasn't me, I found that on an E30 page. I sometimes just don't understand what people are thinking when they do shit like that

to me, seems common sense to lube them, along with the tracks that the pads slide on, with high-temp brake lube. it's a sliding part where you absolutely do not want friction. an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, and all that.

Bentley Manual-- Brakes; Caliper Removal page 340-10:

"Thoroughly clean all contact points on caliper and brake pad carrier. Clean guide bolts and make sure they slide freely. Do not lubricate guide bolts."

Sometimes lube attracts unwanted contaminants causing build up that can be detrimental to overall function. I suspect that may be the case here.
