I saw the car yesterday and everything looked good as far as I could tell. I am getting a PPI done tomorrow and heading back there at about 4. Thanks!

Maybe I'm missing your point (I am quite thick headed), but if you already saw it why do you want someone to go see it? For a second opinion?

As I recall elsewhere I think you said:
    • The owner had done a lot of maintenance and had documentation
    • Said the car looks good when you saw it in person (above)
    • You talked the owner down to $11,500.

If the PPI clears the car of any major maintenance issues, all the above points sound good to me. It's a fair price for a fully loaded car (looks to have all packages plus Park Distance Control (PDC) and navigation) with decent miles with a manual transmission. I'd buy it. Good luck!

You're right. I think I'm a little anxious about getting such a high mileage car without knowing what to really look out for (maintenance wise). I hadn't seen this thread and it seemed like a good idea to get a second opinion from someone else with a ZHP, but I think I'm going a little overboard. If the PPI doesn't come up with anything major I'll pull the trigger. Thanks for the feedback.

No worries, I don't mean to dissuade you. I just wanted to be clear in my own understanding. Can you list what maintenance the owner said they've had done? That should give you a good approximation of what needs to be done. Also, well known points of failure in the E46 platform can be found here beyond the usual cooling system, FCABs/RTABs, suspension, brakes, fluids, etc: http://www.bimmerfest.com/wiki/index...46#Maintenance

Thanks for giving me the link to the other failure points. The maintenance records have been a little less than what I would like to see as the seller has had most of their work done through a friend who is a BMW mechanic. The records I was given are this sheet:
    Name: Screen Shot 2015-07-09 at 8.38.11 AM.png
Views: 311
Size: 415.3 KB

And a Word Doc with this list:

    Thrust rod bushings. Windshield.
    Tires.
    Waterpump.
    Themostat.
Oil and filter one week ago.
    Floor mats.
We did change the oil and filter as well as the coolant three time since the purchase.

I appreciate any feedback you have on this. Thanks
