Picked her up from my Indy yesterday to find a dead battery (not the first time) after they replaced my VANOS seals and did the rattle kit. Went straight to Pep Boys and grabbed a Bosch 94R battery and popped that in. As for the seals, I definitely feel an increase in low-end torque and overall it's a lot smoother. Nothing crazy but I am still in the break in so will report back after that, haven't done any "spirited" driving as per Beisan's recommendations. One other thing I noticed is I can still hear a faint clatter which I had before the rattle kit was installed, it is less noticeable now but I'm thinking maybe it's not related to the VANOS. Seems to go away when I push the clutch in, is this the "ZHP rattle" I hear a lot of people refer to? Is it possible to incorrectly install the rattle kit? I talked to the tech who did it and he said it was his first time doing it and didn't see what the difference was with the rattle kit O.o

does it go away when you depress the clutch? that's the lovely dual mass flywheel. mine does that. i think it has a broken damper on it.

When I hold the clutch in I can't hear it and most of the time when I depress the clutch after that it goes away and then comes back when I stop again. Seems to be less noticeable now with the VANOS rattle kit but it's still there. When I first got the car and started hearing that I read a lot about it and like you said everyone mentioned the lightweight flywheel as being the culprit or the bell housing which is different than non-ZHP cars, IIRC.

I get a rattle for a second when I start out the ZHP. The rattle really sounds like a lose tin plate or something. Might be a protective plate somewhere under the vehicle. Very temporary. Does not bug me.

The flywheel rattle you hear is very common. Don't worry about it until it's time to do a clutch.
