    Depends on your definition of "pop" but yeah the button unlocks the trunk but doesn't initiate any sort of opening mechanism to swing open by itself.

    Another question: Does anyone have a DIY on how to repair dim LEDs in coupes? I know there was one on E46Fanatics that looked good, but I forgot to bookmark it and I can't find it anymore.

    Equipped with your input, I studied single button presses more carefully. I had been trying a single press and quick release, or a long press and hold, neither of which worked. It would only work when I'd just start pressing it sporadically. Turns out pressing for about a half second is the magic duration. I was releasing too quickly, or holding too long before.

    I would think holding the button too long would not be an issue. Do your lock and unlock buttons work appropriately?

    Lock and unlock are great. Trunk was the only weird one. Holding every so slightly longer does the trick for me.
