Which is a nod to the fact that the CCV in the M54's system is a steaming pile of shit.

I would like to put my $.02 worth on this oil consumption issue.

    I used to have to place a quart once every 900 - 1000 miles on a M1 5w-30.

Yes, I have just about replaced all the oil related parts like you all have.

Now, after 2,200+ I still have not put in any oil on M1 0w-40. Knock, knock!

I still do not know using a different grade have to do with oil consumption.......Maybe you guys might have the answer or at least a theory.

    you've got knocking... that's bad.

oil weight is an interesting variable here. i have always run 5w40 shell rotella T6 in the ZHP, and i definitely used oil with it before going with the CC/PCV setup. it's not really any thicker than a 5w30, but your 0w40 is thinner. in theory you'd actually use more oil (blowby) with that's obviously not the case with you.

maybe there's new-yet-defective CCVs out there. i dunno. i kinda have to go back to what BP said above.

What's the current mileage on your BMW 330 ZHP?

Yes that is true but I'm OCD. I have it synced perfectly to zero out every 1000 miles. Ya I know this sounds weird.

Tried to redeem myself, missed again.

I don't think you'll get it just right... I've been cheated out of major milestones as well despite absolute spot on reset points, only to have a .1 or .2 difference. I'm fairly certain that the mileage recorded by the odometer isn't 100% exact...

Ya that is a good point. I tried to take this in stop and go traffic which makes it kinda challenging.

It sounds like the parts helped?

I'm using Castrol Syntec 0W40 and will be doing an oil change soon. I've only had the car for a bit over a year, so it's only had 1 oil change so far. I'll see if it settles down a bit. Maybe I'll try Total 5w40 after. It seems decently priced. Most of the euro oil seems to be double the price once it's not 0w40.

also, installing a PCV valve in that line from the CCV to the IM would be a good idea.

this mod is likely good for warmer climate applications. personally, i don't want any condensate going back into my oil pan, and i don't want any possibility for the CCV freezing, or the drain line from the CCV to the oil pan freezing (or clogging) - that is a recipe for oil hydrolock. so my setup works for me.

but you should do this - i'm curious to see your results!

The weird thing to me is that some people don't seem to have this issue at all, which makes me wonder what's different.

I read further into the thread and it seems that those who have done this have seen almost no oil consumption and have had no negative side-effects. I only read a few pages past that point though, so I was going to finish reading the whole thread before I did anything, just haven't had the time to do so...

Anyway; everyone talking about oil consumption makes me nervous, but I check my level each time I fill up the fuel tank and I haven't seen the level getting lower.. fingers crossed.

I use the BMW Twinpower 5w30 oil.
