+1 want to know. I'm retrofitting ES300/IS300 yellow fog projectors, and I'm curious about how you did it. I'm not looking forward to fabricating another set of brackets.

They're still in my stock housings. One of the housings is completely smashed; the lens shattered off when the fog light fell out and banged against the road. The internals with the X5 innards, however, are fine, so they can still be transplanted if I wanted to. The hard part (modifying the heat sinks) is done, I'd just have to shave some of the inside of the housings to get them to fit the new ones.

When we were retrofitting them, the heatsinks had to be cut and the inside of the fog housing has to be enlarged on the inside a bit for it to slide in.
They didn't sit quite horizontal, but it was close. Unfortunately I don't have the pics on my Flickr account; have to dig them up from wherever they are.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but they're LED and have a similar form factor to most newer BMW fog housings. I know TRS had a great deal on them a year or two ago.

The housings are technically E46 housings, just with X5 LED internals installed. I did it because I'm a lighting whore... I love LED products. Halogen looks like meh to me and HIDs cause my dash lights to flicker whenever they get turned on (and are more complicated; ballasts). LEDs are the perfect solution. No ballasts, instant on/off, and have a nice high intensity output.

Yep, HID fogs are a bad idea. The corner light function will murder the ballasts and bulbs, and an over-illuminated foreground has a very negative impact on your ability to see at-distance in the dark. The X5 LEDs have a very wide beam pattern too, do they not?
