Spent my Saturday night and a good part of the day today doing the VANOS rattle and seals repairs... VCG too, of course, though it was actually in very good shape. Must have been replaced within the last 20-30k miles. I may keep it as a backup. Also did new spark plugs ‘while I was in there.’

Easy job, but time consuming AF.

And a quick video of the culprit...

BTW - I was psyched that the Beisan rattle fix worked on the first try; didn’t need to sand the spacer or washers... it was a perfect fit.

Edit to add; If your car has 100k miles or more, you definitely should do the vanos seals. It feels like it really woke the engine up, and the stumble which occurred between 2500 and 3000 rpm is gone. I'm so glad I did it now.

    Technically, it was yesterday...
Went to a local wrecking yard and got a milking code/backlit Homelink, to replace the older style unit that came in the car I got a couple of weeks ago - and wasn't connected to anything.
    $10
Put it in, programmed it and now I don't have to screw with the crappy remote that goes with the garage door, which doesn't always work.

Washed it and took it out for a Sunday drive to let it stretch it's legs a bit. Found a curvy backroad with a nice bridge that has oddly fantastic acoustics. Ripped the throttle, smiled like an idiot, aaaand fell in love with it all over again.

I have owned many faster cars but this thing just fits like a glove for the driving styles I prefer.

The “smiling like an idiot” is the most important part, for me.

As long as it puts a smile on my face, it'll always have a place in my garage. So... Until I die then I suppose lol.

Nothing major Sunday. Put the drivers side fender liner ( front quarter) that I had picked up at the pick a part on. Washed and cleaned for a MDA org day car show this Thursday.

The service dog ( in training) will attend also.
