    Little update on this m54b30 swap. The replacement engine is back in the car but waiting on some parts before finishing it up. Mostly has to do with the oxygen sensors being different due to production years of the vehicle

    Also I tore down the m54b25 and my diagnosis was correct. The exhaust valve on cylinder 4 has a chunk missing which indicates a burnt valve. Plus there is somewhat excessive carbon build up on all the valves

    This mostly could have been prevented with better fuel or an injector cleaner in the tank with oil changes.

    Replaced the battery after 9 years and 20k miles. Bought an AGM battery from Walmart. $179 + tax etc. Going to return the old battery/core tomorrow.

    Have a lot more on my to-do list. These cranky old German cars can be draining on the wallet!

    Total mileage is 155,533.
    2004 Imola Red over Black Leather. 6-MT, Navigation, Cold Weather Pkg (the wife loves them seat warmers!), 3.46 Diff, UUC Short-Shift Kit, Tranny Mounts, CDV Delete and iPod mount.

    Replaced the fuel filter assembly. I like to do these every 60k.

    Recent service:
    - New clutch and supporting service items
    - New Power steering hoses & Reservoir
    - Shifter mechanism rebuild with Turner DSSR
    - New battery, for some reason my new battery from last year only made it 10 months.
    - New CSB, Guibo, etc.
    - Brake lines with fluid flush

    Mileage: 216,xxx

    I was about to list the car for sale but as you can tell I've made a pretty big commitment to get it to a better state. Needless to say it will be sticking around a while longer.

    I pulled my M3 into my garage today at centre stage to spend the next few days giving this car lots of love. I began detailing my car fixing the numerous detailing mistake put on my car by a shop that installed my carbon fiber roof panel last fall before I moved to Florida. I'm just getting to a point where I can finally begin putting in the time to give a proper paint correction detailing my cars starting with my M3


    I have missed using this random orbital buffer . . .

    I had to clay the surface then put in two passes of compound using my buffer to get the paint surface looking right. I then used a good paint sealer to protect the paint surface before adding a few coats of good carnuba wax.


    I finished one panel with several more to finish. The paint surface here is velvety smooth as it should be.


    EDIT: 7 March - I got my driver's side fully paint corrected detailed and it looks perfect once again. The previous guy who "attempted" to detail my car left a few blemishes on my paint that I now have to correct. The panels I worked on are velvety smooth to the touch and are protected with a few coats of Pinnacle Souverign carnuba wax.




    It is nice to have a garage where I have adequate space on either side to do quality work on my car
