Was given a 2017 Macan S to drive for the day.

The Macan S was a fun car to have today at work. Sporty enough to emit a deep growl in it's exhaust note when in either Sport or Sport Plus mode and civil when driving thru the neighborhood. Interior was nice although compared to the spartin interior of my 997 turbo, was cluttered with more buttons than I would like...

Fresh oil in her and she was checked out sat. The sled is now ready for the 2017 driving season. Now to move on to my M3 and ZHP to get both ready :drevil
Why do I do this (I know some of you are thinking this)? I like getting new Porsches or BMWs for loaners to have all day and I like the convenience of not having to dispose used oil. That's why I use my local dealer...

Nothing wrong with that Charlie. I let Kristen take all of our cars in for oil changes now so I don't have to get rid of the old oil which is a real hassle

I decided to smoke my tail lights this afternoon...
https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4425/36386746410_a44d4d9d37_k.jpg
Here's how they looked when they were clear...
https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3945/33161059404_c0379ad46d_k.jpg
As much as I love the clear look of these tail lights... I wanted to do something different and since both of my BMWs have smoked tail lights I figured why not?

I actually prefer the clear look. The smoked looks a bit too 'aftermarket' for my tastes. But again, this is all a matter of personal preference.

These Dectane LED tail lights are already aftermarket tail lights and there are those who consider these to be cheap quality products that "ruin" the car's look.
Like tinting tail lights, there are those who love them and there are those who don't care too much for them. As you have said it is a matter of personal preference.
I like the clear look of these Dectane tail lights as well but I have always had tinted tail lights on my BMWs so I figured I'd give these a try. Still on the fence whether or not I will keep them. I will give this look a chance.

Yep.... the look is not for everyone, especially when you're doing this to a Porsche... I have been told I ruined my Porsche by using "Korean-made parts" referring to my 997.2 style tail lights... SMFH So far I have been getting positive comments from both fellow Porsche owners here in my area and from the dealer where I service my Porsche...

I had an enjoyable drive down and the first comment I remember hearing from Botond and his friend was I got down there pretty fast. I didn't realize I made it down in quite a short time (my Waze app told me the drive was supposed to be an hour and 40 minutes)...
Needless to say, I will have to give my car a good wash tomorrow after I get home from work... she's dirty from driving back tonight. Lots of police out there trying to get speeding cars...

This is how it's supposed to be... there was no money exchanging hands here... I have a good friend who I met thru this forum who needed help and I was able to help out. I made the drive which took me nearly 3 hours of my time to go down and then come home just so Botond could have the part needed to restore his mirror. To me this is what family is all about... I would help Botond out in a heartbeat because I know he would do the same for me... and he has! :thumbsup

Looks good Charlie! Good to protect them like that...
Those side vents are a problem on the M4 as they seem to suck up everything on the road and embed them in the side radiators that are in there. Kristen says she saw one that had a handgun barrel embedded in it... go figure!

Whats with the BBS rim in the corner?
Gary, that BBS wheel has two cracks on the inner lip thanks to a combination of my aggressive rear camber setting and terrible Rhode Island roads...
I have corrected the negative camber and have brought my ZHP back to BMW specs. The BBS wheel will be taken to RIM Pros this summer to have professionally repaired...

Tough choice, initially I loved that combo but the more I look at it, the more I think it looks off; Assuming that the example is GT silver, i think the color combo is too similar to provide good contrast but too different to match, unlike in your TiAg M3. Not sure if I'm making any sense haha but maybe gunmetal is the way to go
Edit: 5 min later and I think it looks great again...I'll see myself out :eeps

Thanks and yes I put on a ceramic coating on my Porsche. I like that the paint is protected by a strong layer of ceramic and that the paint shines like glass... gone are the days of me sweating my ass off applying wax then having to buff it off... doing this was so much easier once the paint surface was prepped....

I have a great relationship at this particular dealership. They all know me so I guess that helps... I still look everything over when I take delivery of my car though...
So the next OEM upgrade I will be applying to my Speed Sled will be a new Alcantara 997.2 Sport Design steering wheel. Since both my ZHP and M3 have alcantara steering wheels I wanted to have all three cars having the same style of steering wheels in my garage...
The new part has been backordered and will be in stock on 07/16/2018 so I won't have this installed in time for my upcoming Canada road trip....yep, I'm ruining my Porsche.....yep.....

I now can put a closure on my Adaptive Sport Seat retrofit project since I have recalibrated my AWS control unit. Seems when you swap out seats from the basic comfort type seats to the full power Adaptive Sport Seat the AWS control unit requires recalibration for the new seats or you will still have the airbag deployed indication on your instrument cluster.... since I had to take my car to get the State safety inspection I needed to get the fault cleared....

With high volume like BMW, I can't imagine a detailer giving a rats ass with all the workload he has to do. I used to work at a BMW dealership and they definitely don't pay the detailers enough.. Porsche Dealerships I'm sure have a little more giveway for that.

I started by cleaning my seats with Leatherique Pristine Clean then I used Leatherique Restorer to allow the liquid to soak into the leather seats and door panel.... then used Pristine Clean again to clean off everything... car seats turned out soft and supple afterwards.... the Nappa Leather seats in my M3 are also treated with Leatherique. In fact after I get back from my Canada road trip next weekend I intend to apply Leatherique treatment to my M3's seats.

I do the Rejuvenator application twice/yr on my M3 and Porsche... then inbetween those applications I use Pristine Clean. The Leatherique web site states:
"Contains a conditioner which cleans and conditions leather, but to a lesser extent than our Rejuvinator . Use to clean leather after the application of Rejuvinator has done its job and as a maintenance cleaner and detailer on an as needed basis."
So on a weekly to bi-weekly basis because of my OCD, I apply the Pristine Clean to my leather surfaces as a wipe down to keep my leather clean and maintain the conditioning of the leather itself... car looks and more importantly... smells fantastic :)

Way easier. A single one still has you trying to "find" the second hole to align to. With two, everything is lined up.

The big downside for me was the need to replace them every so often. They're too expensive for that kind of upkeep IMO.
Also, mine rusted like crap and were really hard to remove after just a year. Though, at the time, I didn't know there were titanium ones available. Not sure if you have to replace those every couple of years as well though.

@san the only real drawback is that you will always have rust on the exposed threads, nothing you can realistically do to prevent that. So the only way to avoid the rust issue is by going with titanium studs, which carry a price tag around $250 a set ($12 ea).

I don't have any rust on the threads, just in the allen socket hole on the end but my car rarely sees rain and never sees snow or salt

Kinda funny I'm posting this because my road warrior has just over 206k and my M3 has just over 176k on their respective odometers... I know my garage queen will always have much lower mileage than my BMWs... ;)
Now that I have 50k on the odometer I will swap out steering wheels so that all three of my cars will have alcantara steering wheels...
btw.... I love that my Porsche's speedometer goes up to 225 ;)

Had my leather dash replaced recently because of some dipshit glass installer scratched my leather dash while replacing my windshield. I even told this idiot to be careful because I have a leather dash... I swear, I just wish you could dock their pay for damages they cause due to stupidity and/or negligence. Hit them thru their paycheck and they will eventually learn to be careful when working with customer’s cars...
This was the damage the glass installer put on my OE leather dash...

I still don’t understand how someone can be that stupid and careless as to cause the damage then not even acknowledge they did this?! The glass shop who caused this (Altieri's Auto Inc at Johnstown, RI) did not even apologize for causing the damage (other than tell me they were going thru their insurance) so for those who live in Rhode Island or Massachusetts word of caution if you go thru these assclowns when getting a new windshield... The guy I talked to there acted like a complete asshat.
So this is my damaged OE leather dash after it was removed...

I took my clothes steamer and applied steam/heat to the dented areas of my leather seat to work out those dents... took some time and patience but I got them worked out... then I applied lots of Leatherique to the leather.

Take lots of pictures from every angle before dropping your car off. Be prepaired to call people on their shit if their work does not meet your expectations.
With that said, I will be leaving work early today to address a few shortcomings from the collision shop and my service center.

What a shitheads! Sorry to hear that Charlie!
Car looks even better after your work with dash and seat.
I actually had a bad experience with Satellite auto glass. They send joker to my house instead of professional guy. He showed talking with his friend on the cell phone and jump on my car without discuss all the fails with me. Also, he told me that he is not going to repair the damage, he was going to install a new windshield. I told him to leave, call the manager on duty and said that I no longer want to deal with them.
On the same day I realized that insurance is going to cover the hole replacement even if it's going to be done at dealership. So I made an appointment with BMW of Peobody, since they are closest, and change the windshield. My experience with them was pretty good.

Thanks Serg! Yeah the people at the glass shop really messed up this time around. They installed new windshields on two of my BMWs in the past without any issues then when they worked on my Porsche recently, they really messed up in a very bad way... anyway going forward I will never recommend this glass shop nor will I ever use them. Apparently, a bunch of incompetent hacks are working there these days.
I still have the windshield issue left by that "hack glass shop" to deal with but with all the recent b***sh** I have had to deal with, I'm going to give myself a break and give it a few months before readdressing the glass issue on my Porsche... I just don't understand the lack of "quality workmanship" from these so-called professional shops I have been seeing these days on friend's cars or even my cars...

I left work early to address these issues at the collision center's manager and went over all the details and showed him the pictures of my "dented" passenger seat and what the results were of my efforts to repair those dents... I also took the time to convey the rage inside without putting him on the defensive and we had a good discussion as a result. I listened to him and he also in turn listened to me. When it was all over he offered to work with the glass shop's insurance adjuster to also add the replacement of my windshield since the glass shop botched this up as well.
I then went to service to address my non-functioning horn issue and reminded my service advisor exactly what needed to be done to my car to make the horn functional. I also fed back the issues to my passenger seat to the tech who actually worked on my car and let him know the actual condition of my car when I received it. He was noticeably affected by what he was told and I could see he took this hard. He assured me that he did take extreme care of my car while it was in his hands and I could see he was telling me the truth so I told him okay... I just wanted to feed back to all parties what happened so wherever the process that broke regarding repairs to my car will be taken care of so no other owner will have to go thru what I recently went thru. The tech is actually a good guy and I could tell he was still affected by what had happened to me. This is when I know I'm taking my car to a shop that actually care about their customer's car... even the head mechanic at the shop apologized to me for what had happened and I assured him it was okay as I was able to work everything out...
After all of this I feel much better going forward and look forward to more mods to my speed sled...to be perfectly honest when I left work I was not feeling too good about the whole situation and now after taking the time to "talk" to everyone at the dealer involved, I am feeling much better... It goes to show that sometimes you can get much farther by just talking to people rather than yelling at them...
I fully understand the issues you’ve been dealing with and why I left the automotive service occupation over 30 years ago. That is also why if I can’t do it myself, I pay the stealership the big bucks to do it for me. As of today and 11 years, 9 months and one day of my ZHP ownership, the only ones that have worked on her are the dealer and the tire store. At the tire store, a full picture set is taken of the wheels before and a walk through inspection with the service writer. I also do the pre walk threw at the dealership.

Yep! I hear ya Guy! I have a great relationship with Porsche Service at my dealer and on the most part at the Collision Center. They all know my car so what happened was an unfortunate accident that I am happy I was able to correct. As for the glass shop... that shop has installed two windshields on two separate BMWs that I have owned without so much of an issue so when it was time to do my Porsche I had no reason to expect this abortion from this glass shop... anyway, what is done is done and I have to deal with the end result but in the end that F-tard glass shop is paying a lot more than they bargained for thru their insurance... yes, I got so much more in frustration throughout the process. Enough so that going forward I too will be going to the dealer for any items I cannot do myself...

I took Botond out in my Porsche after putting my Audi up on ramps and as I accelerated by all the slow cars going on the highway, he commented “I’m ruined” and I laughed.
Damn this car is a lot of fun to drive!! [emoji16][emoji16][emoji16]

Took the Porsche in for an oil change service and had the whole suspension checked out.
I will be looking to swap out rotor sets so that means $1800 two-piece rotor sets will be getting purchased along with new brake pads and sensors
Also looks like my front strut bearings will be needing replacement along with another 4-wheel alignment so I will do this job first while saving to do the rotor/brake job later...
Other than that my Porsche checked out and is ready for the 2019 car season.... :thumbsup

I decided my Porsche won’t be getting BBS wheels. Instead I will be getting HRE P40S wheels in bright silver finish in 19 inch size.
Will most likely get 19x8.5 245 35/19 front and 19x12 325 30/19 rear with Michelin Pilot P4S tires.
My car will look similar to this when I get them [emoji41]

I will also be getting carbon fiber center caps for the new shoes...

Along with the new shoes, I will install GMG lowering springs to lower my speed sled about an inch and still retain my OE PASM system. Car should look perfect when this is done [emoji41]

Stock the 997.1 turbo wheels are 235F/305R. :)
HREs look great! I've been casually watching the market on 997 Turbos for my next purchase in 3 years and it looks like they're going up in value.
Its either going to be E92 M3 or 997 Turbo but at about $70-80k, an M3 sounds better. For now...

I got my 997.1 turbo at the right time to get them. Finding one just like mine at 35k miles now will cost you somewhere in the $80k range. Yes, pricing for these cars are on their way up and I won’t be surprised by the time you are ready you won’t find good low mileage examples for less than $90k.
I plan to enjoy mine and will be putting miles on it [emoji41]

You said E93 the first time, so not sure which of the following applies more to you, but...
They only made half as many E93s as they did E46 M3 verts, and made 16k fewer E92s than they made E46 M3 coupes. I expect E90 prices to take off first, since they made less than 10k sedans total.
Sorry to go off-topic, Charlie.

Don't worry, M3's do nothing but depreciate 'till they're about 20 years old.
E36 M3's just started appreciating and they're 20 years at their youngest at this point. Even E30 M3's were dirt cheap until they were about 20-25 years old.

We’re talking about pristine low mileage examples... cars with high mileage (>100k) won’t command high value.

Sorry Sergy! I was more focused on hetting my Audi ready for full-time driving during the winter and getting both my M3 and Porsche cleaned and put away for the winter.
I finally got my carbon fiber Porsche pen for my Porsche. There is a pen holder inside the glove compartment where the Porsche pen fits so I will be able to put this pen there...;)

The brown boxes are my two CANBUS HID ballasts to swap out for my current foglight ballasts and the top box is a replacement low tone horn for my Porsche.
I have learned for some reason the low tone horns in 997 Porsche tend to fail often. I will have to take off my front bumper in order to replace these...

I’m on track to close the chapter on my Porsche windshield fiasco by redoing my windshield and getting the seals done right.
I went to my Porsche dealer and ordered an OEM seal for my windshield in case Safelite does not have the proper seal when they come to my garage Saturday morning....I pick up the new seals on Friday :)
I also sourced a 997 GT2/GT3 Sport Chrono stopwatch to swap in[emoji41] This part is extremely hard to source and I have always wanted one since seeing one mounted in Jon’s Porsche turbo[emoji41]
