I'm picking this up for my ZHP tomorrow. It has been modded where it will show four doors open so once I have my ZHP's VIN programmed into this cluster and my mileage zeroed, I should be able to plug it into my car then begin programming my DME to work with my new cluster. [emoji57]

I'll be buying a pre-programmed module Dimitri developed that plugs in line between the instrument cluster harness and instrument cluster as soon as I get Dimitri's PayPal info.

Using this module, the redline is accurate and warm up/shift lights are completely functional. Here is a picture of this module installed in Raymond's ZHP (shown above) showing his M3 instrument cluster installed using this pre-programmed module. 😎

Raymond gave me Dimitri's contact info and I reached out to him. I'm just waiting for him to respond back with his PayPal info to make the purchase 😎

Once I have everything installed I will be reviewing the entire process and outline everything needed to make this mod work for anyone interested in doing this including overall cost to accomplish this mod.

Regarding parting out my OE ZHP instrument cluster, I am planning to keep mine in case something ever comes up where I have to sell this ZHP. If that ever happens I plan to pull this mod for another ZHP to replace this one...

I have my modded M3 gauge cluster. I'm getting ready to send it to Fixels in North Carolina to have the RPM LEDs (7k and 7.5k) changed out to red LEDs to adjust my red line for my ZHP and program the VIN and mileage so that when I plug it into my ZHP I won't have that tamper dot appear...

Once I get it all back and have tested everything... I plan to detail everything that was done for my M3 gauge cluster mod so it is not guess work.

There are a few who have done this and had their DME programmed thanks to Terra's help but he's incredibly busy these days so I searched and found another way to accomplish the same thing... if everything works as expected I will then put out what I have done.... not until then. Have to make sure how I did it works perfectly first[emoji1417]

I was going to get the rear power shade this week but decided to wait. I just shelled out some coin today so that I could ship out my M3 gauge cluster and LCM to Fixels to have the gauge cluster programmed and modded. Shipping charges was a lot more than I expected to pay out by over $150 so as a result, I will have to delay getting the rear power shade until my wallet recovers...

Gotcha, and I want to do the rear power shade eventually as well just for the sake of having a complete row of functional buttons without a gap, but finding one for sport, DSC, heated, rear shade, is too hard to find

My modded M3 cluster and LCM is getting delivered back to me sometime this afternoon so I plan to be installing them back into my ZHP once I take delivery of my package... this mod was something that was unexpected but when I saw that a local BMW enthusiast was selling this gauge cluster and it has already been modded to show all four doors when open, I had to purchase this.

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51500624911_80f04c9bb5_b.jpg

The cost for this gauge cluster was $250 and I made the trip to come up and pick up the gauge cluster myself.

I reached out on the BMW E46 Performance Package (ZHP) Owner's Club facebook page and found out that Fixels provided the service to change out the RPM LEDs so that I could update my redline to 7k RPM instead of the M3's 8k RPM and also found out that they will program my ZHPs VIN and mileage so that I won't have the tamper dot when I plug in my gauge cluster so I paid for their service to have these additional modifications performed. So I boxed up both my M3 gauge cluster and LCM and sent it to North Carolina for this service... Cost for this service was $150 plus $195 in shipping from FedEx (their standard rate [emoji51][emoji51][emoji51])

Raymond Liu chimed in on my M3 gauge cluster post on Facebook and provided another option since Mirza has been unable to be reached for his programming work. I understand Mirza has been incredibly busy with his school work and choice of career and wish him all the best. He has helped a lot in the BMW community but since I can't reach him I chose to follow up with Ray's method to make the M3 gauge cluster work in my ZHP...

Thanks to Ray I was able to reach out to Dimitri but was not expecting a response since Ray had told me it was several years since he has done his mod but I reached out anyway... hey, it did not hurt to try, right?? Well a few days later Dimitri responded and gave me a price in euros (95.64 EUR) so I paypal'd Dimitri the amount which converts to $112.30 but then I had to adjust for the paypal service fees and ended up paying the $4.99 service fees for a total of $123.60 for the pre-programmed module compatible for MS45.1 our ZHPs have.

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51500833433_45172bc6b0_h.jpg

The module Dimitri made along with the wiring harness was shipped out on the 8th from Vienna, Austria and made it here on Monday the 20th. Ray was kind enough to email me the installation instructions needed to install the module and I was able to figure out exactly what was needed and where to make the necessary connection so that the module will function as designed and provide the proper interface to the M3 gauge cluster when installed.

https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210923/78b02e27b6f277ced52d9422f8f42a87.jpg

Having this interface module installed, I will have the proper oil temps to the gauge cluster, fully functional oil warm up lights and shift lights and proper DSC operations. The only thing I will have to do is get INPA and reset my steering angle sensor and I should be all set :)

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51501322229_b1319be288_h.jpg
This is how everything is at the moment. I will get the wiring cleaned up using new BMW cloth tape for a more OEM look over the weekend but for now I have everything done and want to get the cluster installed just to make sure nothing else needs to be worked on (verify all connections are good). Once everything is verified then I can begin to wrap everything and get it all sealed properly :thumbsup

For this project the overall cost ran me $718.60 but this was one mod I have wanted for my ZHP but never could figure out how to go about it until I had posted getting this gauge cluster on facebook. Much thanks to Paul at Fixels for modding and programming my M3 cluster, to Raymond Liu for providing me info for another option to have a fully functional M3 gauge cluster and sending me the install instructions/diagrams, to Mark Spencer for selling me his modded M3 gauge cluster and to Dimitri for his MS45.1 interface module for which all of this could not have happened to begin with. Without you guys this mod would have never been added to my ZHP project :thumbsup

As I have said this particular mod was something completely unplanned but when the M3 gauge cluster came up for sale on facebook, I knew I had better get this while it was for sale or I would not do this mod at all... the deciding factor for this mod is that this gauge cluster already had the 4-door indication mod done to it by Kassel Performance so that is why I ended up following thru on this mod when I was supposed to be buying Hieu's AutoSolution SSK for my M3. This is something I have always wanted for the ZHP and felt it was something that would add to the build so that is why I had to take a slight detour... sorry...

I also followed up on a few inputs that was provided from facebook that allowed me to have a fully functional M3 cluster without having to program the DME. Since I do not know how to program my DME and the only person I could think of who could does not have any time to do this, I followed up on a lead which took me to Vienna, Austria where a workable solution was found. There is a guy there who has developed an interface module for the M3 cluster which will allow the cluster to fully work in a non-M BMW so I took the chance and contacted him and purchased his product along with a wiring loom to connect the module to the car's wiring...

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51504307768_eb0da30e23_h.jpg
This is what the interface module and wiring loom looks like (also shown on a previous post). The instructions were confusing at first to read so I rewrote them to better understand the process to connect the wiring loom to the car's wiring. Fortunately all the connections needed are done to one plug (X11175 Dual Row Black Connector).

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51501322229_b1319be288_h.jpg
X11175 connector plug is the black one to the right (picture above) as you're facing the spot where the gauge cluster is mounted.

Here is the direction I rewrote to document the process I used when installing this interface module (all wiring was labeled):

CAN BUS Connection:

Remove the can-bus wires (pin 9 & 10 on Plug X11175) from the car side plug and then connect them to the DME CAN H/L wires. At the same time plug in the IKE_CAN_H/L wires (yellow wires with pins on them) into the vacant pin 9 and 10 contacts on connector plug X11175 (explained in steps below).

1. Remove IKE CAN H wire from pin 9 on plug X11175 and insert wire from wiring harness labeled IKE CAN H (Yellow/Red wire) into pin 9 of plug X11175.

2. Remove IKE CAN L wire from pin 10 on plug X11175 and insert wire from wiring harness labeled IKE CAN L (Yellow/Brown wire) into pin 10 of plug X11175.

after completing steps 1 and 2 you should have this (shown in picture below):
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51501322209_37742933f1_h.jpg

3. Take the DME CAN H wire (Blue/Red wire) and attach this wire to the IKE CAN H wire (Yellow/Red wire). I soldered these wires together and used heat shrink to seal the solder connection.

4. Take the DME CAN L wire (Red wire) and attach this wire to the IKE CAN L wire (Yellow/Brown wire). I soldered these wires together and used heat shrink to seal the solder connection.

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51504330708_4af5beb7d3_b.jpg

5. Source for +12v1 supply must be chosen, so that the battery do not discharge constantly if engine
is off. Good choice, key position R (terminal R). I take it directly from Pin 6 of plug X11175.

6. + 12v2 supply is source from key position II-Ignition (terminal 15), pin 5 of plug X11175 .
Ground can be taken from IKE plug (pin 1) or somewhere else.

7. TÖNS Cable is for Oil level Sensor , used mostly in cars with non M54 engines.

If possible, don't place the module directly behind the speedometer. If possible, somewhere
below of speedo, behind the footwell cover. I place it in my car left from OBD Plug.

For steps 5, 6, and 7 I followed the chart below:
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51500593146_7d8d8f8dce_h.jpg

The pins on the chart correspond to the plug. Only wire not used was the reverse wire (not needed for manual cars).

With the interface module connected to the car's wiring loom, this diagram applies...
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51501305804_34d15b80f5_h.jpg

For comparison this is the generic BMW E46 diagram:
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51501305794_5be6624970_h.jpg

Once I plugged everything together this is what I was greeted to:

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51504996925_85dcbbab5f_h.jpg

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51503268352_22fa7aa4a6_h.jpg

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51504996870_a539fdd86a_h.jpg

video link:

https://flic.kr/p/2mtfZBc

This mod is reversible and I can put back my original gauge cluster if I ever sell my ZHP... I spent more than I had planned over the course of two months to complete this mod but after seeing this gauge cluster work as it should in my ZHP.... to me it was worth doing. There aren't many ZHPs that I know of that has this mod done to it. As far as I know, VAS, Jacob and Rob are the only ones that have M3 gauge clusters in their ZHPs. Mirza (Terra) did the M3 gauge cluster mod to his ZHP when he had a ZHP but he programmed his DME to work with his gauge cluster (amazing work by the way). I think Vas, Rob and Jacob have the DME programming to make their M3 gauge clusters work, correct me if I'm wrong guys[emoji1417]

Additional Notes:

1. To mod the door open indications for 4-doors (see picture above), send the gauge cluster to Kassel Performance.
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51569985422_6978cb126e_c.jpg

2. To change the VIN and mileage as well as adjust the red line LEDs to 7k RPM, you send the M3 gauge cluster to Fixels in North Carolina. Paul does awesome work and is highly recommended for this job :thumbsup
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51569985412_329afab0cd_c.jpg

if you don't have a Facebook account then you can send Paul an email here: blackknighti30@gmail.com

3. For the adapter module you will need to contact Dimitri Rukhadze in Vienna, Austria. He charged me 95.64 EUR for the module and wiring harness adapter:
His email is: drukhadze@gmail.com
I told Dimitri the M3 gauge cluster was going into a 2004 US spec 330i 6-speed manual Performance Package (ZHP). He took it from there :thumbsup

That about sums up what needs to be done to make this mod happen along with the procedure I have summed up here in my project thread...

My understanding is that it accounts for the rate of increasing RPM's but also adjusts as the oil warms up. The redline is lower when oil is cold and adjusts as the oil warms up, hence the oil warmup LEDs.

My understanding is that it accounts for the rate of increasing RPM's but also adjusts as the oil warms up. The redline is lower when oil is cold and adjusts as the oil warms up, hence the oil warmup LEDs.

Nice, okay. Very interested at this point. If you ever find the time to take a video, I'd love to see a warmed car with varying rates of acceleration and when the shift lights come on. But damn, looks great!

This morning I got to do the very last part for my M3 gauge cluster mod.... resetting the wheel angle sensor on my ZHP using INPA. Botond usually does all my coding needs but he is away on vacation in Florida so I had to figure out how to use INPA to do this final task. Thankfully I was able to reach Botond for some technical assistance... my cable was set to COM 4 and needed to be set to COM 1 in order to communicate with INPA so I was able to do this when Botond reminded me of this fact :) Then I found a YouTube video which showed me where to go in INPA to reset my wheel angle sensor and I was able to accomplish this one final task for my mod... :cool

The M3 gauge cluster mod is officially complete on blauzed :thumbsup

EDIT: One other thing that was required, at least for me, was to make the speedometer accurate and I found Mirza's DIY on how to do this so I will post the process below:

Ryan was going to throw away a 13th gen remanufactured TCU bcecause no one wanted it so I offered to take it off his hands... I know the TCU in my ZHP is an older version most likely a 6th gen TCU so I will be swapping in this updated TCU in it's place even though I'm not using my TCU thanks to my BlueBus retrofit. Just the thought of having the latest TCU available for E46 is why I am doing this retrofit, nothing more ;)

BMW P/N:84-10-9-195-455 Remanufactured TCU (13th generation, works with all iPhones, BlackBerrys etc)

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51534922622_d2fb8ffa25_h.jpg

I couldn't see this TCU being thrown out so it will reside inside my ZHP instead... :)

This is the old one p/n 84-11-6-952-218 - This unit was installed in 2004 models and although has a BT sticker/passcode on the unit, it DOES NOT SUPPORT Bluetooth.

I'm glad I'm changing this out for the newer, better condition TCU module which does support Bluetooth hands free communication...[emoji41] Thanks Ryan!! [emoji1417]

So if anyone wants my old TCU and bracket let me know. All I would ask for is shipping charges for this....

Geez Charlie, this thing was a fucking mess. Good on you for cleaning it up, I'm sure it feels great to transform the car.

You're right Dario, blauzed was a big mess when I got her but I knew this going in. Goes to show what happens when dumbass asshats own a car they clearly can't take good care of which is why I have been documenting the process in this build thread... previous owner bragged to me about how he knew ZHPs and that he had 6 of them previously... clearly he does not know how to properly take care of them otherwise he would not have done what he did to this poor car during his ownership.... idiot...

This car deserves far better care than what she has been exposed to and that is why I got her. With the high mileage she has, I don't feel guilty getting rid of worn or broken parts and installing better quality parts instead... my builds are not based on "how much" as much as they are based on how I want to see my cars after I'm finished... I have done a lot to her this car season and next year I have a feeling I will shift focus to my Audi and get her where I need but fortunately my Audi won't require as much money or resources as blauzed did this year...

I do love fixing up my rides, I mean setting up my rides, though :thumbsup

Good luck on your E90 M3 :thumbsup

Who knows??? Perhaps someday I might swap out the motor and put in an S54 soul into my ZHP. Well considering you already have an E46 M3, maybe you don't have to!
I was fortunate enough to own my old ZHP and my current S54 ZHP at the same time for a short period of time, and I appreciated the separation.

The ZHP in stock form was a much better cruiser/daily driver. The S54 is so visceral.

For those with slushbox transmissions.... the 6MT retrofit is a huge mod... worthy of being documented so that others who want to do this will have a idea what is required to accomplish this mod...

This is why I detailed the process of retrofitting the OEM M3 gauge cluster into my ZHP (my solution)... with exception of contact info which I will gladly provide via PM for anyone interested in doing this retrofit... this way others are aware that there are more than one way (Terra's programming) to do the same thing.. :thumbsup

I will have to take a video of this with someone else riding shotgun taking the video while I am rowing thru the gears... I can say that the shift lights work well as I revved the car well after the engine has warmed and noticed the shift lights engaging as I was rowing thru the gears at WOT... I can say I am very pleased with this mod. :)

I'll get some pics up soon. You've always been good about the helpful details on your mods. As for my swap, I am following well documented DIYs that have been around for years so not much I would add, outside of my own experiences which would vary among individuals. So, mine will be more just a few 'along the way' pics and captions, not a DIY.

I would at least post links to those DIYs you're referencing along with your pictures so others who are seeing your project thread can then reference those DIYs to help them do the research for their 6MT conversions...

I try to document the mods I do to my ZHP so that other's who decide they want to pony up the cash to do the mod are able to... to me there's nothing more irritating than someone posting what they have done and not post how they were able to do it... forums are supposed to be a place where we all help each other out... and that is something I have seen more from this forum than all the other BMW forums is that members here have been helpful... we should continue this in my opinion...

For me, seeing you do the 6MT retrofit... it's about damned time you did this to your ZHP... you will get so much more enjoyment rowing thru the gears. :thumbsup

I don't think he needs to do that. I mean it's widely available info, that's why we were able to do it in the first place. If we were pioneering it or like doing something way different than what's out there then I can see a need for it.

So now all I need to see is Charlie's CF roof install lol

No arguments here Hieu! I have been waiting to do this install on my M3 as well... I have a few trips coming up for work... perhaps I will make extra money from those trips to finally get this carbon fiber roof panel installed ;)

- Changed Speedometer Variance values (Hex 03 00 01 C8 00 01 CA)

Speedometer is much more accurate now and my heated seats feel great again :)

Yes you do know my standards and I am on my way to restoring my ZHP... it has been an interesting, and expensive, project to say the least but this is what I signed up for when I purchased this car...also the challenge of bringing this car back to life ;)

I still have my PSS-10's to instal... I have to figure out a good time to get this done.[emoji41]

I took advantage of the nice weather today and addressed a few rust spots I noticed after taking my ZHP home from Maryland where I bought it... there was a very small rust spot on my front driver's corner on my hood which was addressed with some rust converter then primed and painted....

https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20211015/6560dbe253fa06e43aa8a8ff8e84769e.jpg

Then I addressed the other spot using a sander and wire brush then treated this area using the rust converter

As you can see in the picture above, the rust converter did it's job on the rust so I could prime and paint this area...
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20211015/f3e23391c490493d51db0f8dab4e1f08.jpg

two coats of primer was added after the area was wiped down with some acetone solution.
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20211015/26ea1daf6edc4dd13721484b32fa28c2.jpg
Then 3 layers of base coat paint was added before 2X clear was sprayed on[emoji4]
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20211015/929c5453ad8537472ad67ddb11443942.jpg

This area is protected and once the paint has cured, I will detail out this area using compound and polish to get rid of the tape marks....

Eventually all these imperfections will be permanently addressed when I get this car professionally painted at a good body shop....

Nice! Damn, I want a sedan more and more.

Why I ended up getting this sedan, even though mine was a severely neglected and abused example. At least while I'm rebuilding and restoring my ZHP, I can build mine just the way I want without having any regrets because of the high mileage (> 230k) on it[emoji41]

Next year I will source a brand new UUC Corsa TSE 3 exhaust with black chrome tips [emoji6]

my carbon fiber Gruppe M intake arrived in the mail today [emoji41]

https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20211102/0aa2032f903ad9eb6df60e139106d9ad.jpg
It was nice to see Cole double boxed his intake when he sent it to me[emoji1417]
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20211102/f8503bbda785988c7a4e3604449940d4.jpg

This intake was dirty, no surprises there but cleaned up nicely...
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20211102/987421cc154e73c2da989f68229193ab.jpg
shown here is the dirty Gruppe M intake...

The filter was a filthy mess and I should have taken a picture of it but I was more in a rush to get it cleaned out so I gave it a hot water shower so to speak to get rid of all the grime and dirt as well as the excess oil that was in this filter...
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20211102/962b26841af1e0c4025559a8034edbcf.jpg
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20211102/5371a061227366b45c4d55fa206512d2.jpg
As you can see above this filter is in excellent shape after getting it cleaned. There are no rips or bends in the mesh and everything cleaned up nicely... The chrome cap at the top of this filter looks brand new. I will be using this filter again [emoji4]

My thanks to Cole for giving me a very nice price on this intake! It will live on in blauzed[emoji41]

Rather than have redundant posts... this is what I did for blauzed today...

I took apart both spare side mirrors for blauzed and took out the mirror motors in preparation for my OEM M3 side mirror retrofit... this way the mirror motors are removed safely and then cleaned and prepped for install into the OEM M3 mirror housings... I also have a set of 3D printed M3 mirror motor baseplates given to me by Sergy when I helped him install his OEM M3 side mirrors on his touring... so I now have everything in place and will carefully wrap up the mirror motors so they won't get damaged for when I am ready to begin this project sometime over the upcoming winter months...

With facelift sedans they come with the ribbon "wires" and are very easy to break if you're not careful... what a PITA design they are.... but they also come with an extra lead that is used for autofold motors if you have them installed... the coupes and verts do not have this in their mirror motor wiring... funny how the sedan owners do...
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51660329373_57945f28d5_b.jpg
in the picture below you see me pointing to the connector that is used with the autofold motors when installed
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51660777334_72d0d965b7_b.jpg

As I removed the motor from it's original housing, I took the three screws that are used to secure the motor and put them into my 3D printed baseplate for safe keeping...
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51660976070_38769227ed_b.jpg

I then took out the passenger side mirror motor and you can also see the autofold lead coming from the motor
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51660976130_3f9dc75818_b.jpg

For the passenger side I used a white clip and on the driver's side I used a purple clip.... here's a closeup showing one the clips that will be soldered to the autofold motor leads
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51660976095_1bca69c6be_b.jpg

In the picture below you can see both clips connected to the autofold wiring to the mirror motor...
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51659293202_d4d8646973_b.jpg

and the closeup to show the two clips...
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51660098316_049eb882fe_b.jpg

All I need to source is the euro mirror control switch that has the autofold button and a set of M3 rep (M5) autofolding mirrors. For the euro mirror control switch, I have the part number and will source this switch very soon... I have the Rogue Engineering DIY to mod the mirror baseplate so that I can install it on my sedan, I also have a copy of the DIY from E46 Fanatics where it shows where to drill the extra holes on the door so that you can mount the OEM M3 side mirrors... oh and I will also source a set of euro M3 mirrors to mount. :cool

All I need is to take my side mirrors to my friend's body shop and have the base plates modded then prepped, painted and sealed so it won't corrode over time like my last pair did... then have them built and mounted while I am at my friend's body shop... everything should function perfectly when I have it installed... as for the autofold leads, I will solder them while building my side mirrors at my friends shop... it will be much easier when building the mirrors...I'm one step closer to getting this done :)

As always there's parts that you don't need that can be thrown away....
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51660976235_f2db3c2254_b.jpg

Clips were broken and arms were very corroded and all I really wanted from them were the ribbon mirror motors anyway... mission accomplished.

Right now my TCU module is disconnected but if I ever decide to get an AVIN head unit I will be going back to using my TCU module and transfer my BlueBus module into my M3..... so that is why I am installing this OEM BMW bluetooth module into my ZHP... :cool

looks like I will be ordering a new passenger front window regulator to replace the one on my car. I got this indication on my car today....

On another note this came in for blauzed in yesterday's mail but it was just too nasty to go outside to get it so I waited until this morning.

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51677883809_9d784dcfe2_o.jpg
Edit: I installed my First Aid kit under the front Passenger Seat and these screws are the right part for this kit. No issues adjusting the front extender with the screws in place :thumbsup

https://www.getbmwparts.com/oem-parts/bmw-screw-889520-07149169302

If you try using the part number on the FCP Euro or ECS Tuning web site you will get a NLA for this part yet on the getbmwparts web site they are available so I would order them while they are in inventory if you have a First Aid box to install or if you're considering getting this because the screws don't come with the BMW First Aid Kit anymore...just a heads up.

Screws for my OEM BMW First Aid Kit. I had to do some research on the type and size of these screws and with RealOEM found them (don't ask where I found them because it has been awhile since I did this). I ordered these awhile back and they finally came in so I will be mounting this in my ZHP over the weekend[emoji41]

I have done a lot of work over the summer months on my ZHP... it is time to put it all to a test by taking one more long distance road trip for the 2021 car season to see how everything works out... I will be driving my ZHP to Jacksonville Florida for the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday next week... I have taken this car to Columbus Ohio in early Spring to help Botond and have taken this car to Norfolk VA in June for a business trip without running into any issues (knock on wood). I am looking forward to taking it to Florida and back... I have a few friends who I will be seeing on the way down and back. My current plan is to take I-95 for the trip so hopefully I will run into a few people from the Mafia forum sometime during the trip. I am charging my Nikon for the trip. Should be fun... as long as I don't run into any ice or snow :)

This is what I'm expecting... I ran the ZHP to Norfolk, VA and back this summer and had no issues so I'm expecting the same here... I will check all fluids, have extra oil and coolant at the ready and verify tire pressures are all sat today to make sure the car is ready... looking forward to taking blazed on a cruise with all the mods I have done. I only wish I had done the coilers over the summer months... well I guess I will upgrade them after getting back in the auto hobby shop on the Naval base with a friend of mine... :)

There will be a few stops along the way and back to visit with friends so I can check on my ZHP while I'm stopped over... :thumbsup

Thanks guys... so far blauzed has been excellent on the trip. Yesterday I drove from Rhode Island to Fredericksburg VA with no issues however Washington DC area traffic still sucked and I ended up using the toll roads to bypass the massive traffic congestion that is Washington DC... money well spent if you ask me ;)

Car was checked out while at my friend's home and is ready for it's next segment before another stop over at another friends place in South Carolina for the day then off to Florida where I will be spending Thanksgiving with family there... not bad... I did bring my Nikon and will start taking a few pictures......

I drove my ZHP 2300 miles over the Thanksgiving holiday and met up with several people along the way... a few I have served with while I was in the Navy, and a few I have met here on the Mafia forum... as always it is great catching up with friends while traveling and it also helps to break up the driving. While we are young we don't necessarily feel the impact sitting in a prone position for a long time has on the body but when we do get older, you really feel it. Nothing a long hot shower can cure though ;) I have to say I had a great trip and had a great time this past week! I can't wait to take my speed sled for my next Florida run in 2022! :cool

Today was a fun and interesting day because I stopped over at Brett's place last night and slept in a bit then helped Brett move a yacht this morning and had a great lunch at Pirate's Cove... a restaurant by a Marina with an amazing view of the water.

I then headed off knowing traffic would be miserable because of everyone returning from their Thanksgiving outing... I was not disappointed... at least I got to think about the ride I got in that beautiful yacht Brett gave me a ride in [emoji4][emoji4][emoji4]

The drive was busy, very typical of any weekend ending after any major holiday... I made it to Botond's place around 8:30pm and took custody of a few weather mats that I will use in my M3 and gave him some weather strip for his Gruppe M intake.

In the 2300 miles I have driven my ZHP, the weather strip has not come off my Gruppe M intake so I am expecting Botond to have similar results with his Gruppe M intake when he installs the weather strip. After having a late dinner with Botond, I headed home and arrived at 11:38pm officially ending my long road trip for the year...

I have put in a lot of work into my ZHP in my first year of ownership with lots more that needs to be done... my recent long-distance road trip gave me comfort in that even with the high mileage my ZHP has (over 235k miles) the car still performs very strong. blauzed still has plenty of life in her ;)

Did you notice issues when your ambient temperature sensor was wonky?
When mine ripped off the bottom of my car, my AC wouldn't work because the car thought outside was negative 50 degrees and my oil temperature on my instrument cluster wasn't reading correctly

The strangest thing I noticed was that my temps were reading in the negative when weather was in the 80's during the summer... I couldn't believe I had put this off all summer long when weather was nice... noooooo! I had to wait it out for weather to be cold so I can lay on my back to change this out... anyway it was a very easy swap since my wiring was undamaged...

Looking back at the 2021 car season I managed to go on 5 long distance road trips, three of them with Botond. Three of them using my ZHP with the longest trip over the Thanksgiving holidays when I drove to Florida and back... it was a very good car season for my BMWs (using my M3 occasionally for local driving fun) this year while the Audi and Porsche remained at the garage...

I have accomplished the following over the 2021 car season (Jan - Dec) for blauzed....

- Go-Mini-Go front tow hook license plate holder
- A-pillars and filler strip replaced
- Complete owner’s manual setup for 330i sourced from eBay
- OEM BMW SIRIUS Satellite Radio Module integration including antenna

Some things I had planned to do this car season did not happen which is now scheduled for the upcoming car season... but that is a good thing as it will keep me busy over the upcoming winter months...the list below are the items that I am looking to accomplish to start off my 2022 car season for blauzed:

- Paint my SGT Carbon Fiber CSL bootlid to Mystic Blue to match my car and leaving the top center edge exposed in carbon fiber
- Repaint my entire rear bumper to look brand new again
- Bilstein PSS-10's and Ground Control camber kit install planned (winter 2022 - Jan/Feb time frame)

- Upgrade my M3 manual folding side mirrors to auto folding M3 side mirrors (winter 2022 - Jan/Feb time frame)
- Install my OEM M3 side mirrors (after getting them modded for sedan fitment and painted) when I paint my CSL bootlid and rear bumper (winter 2022 - Jan/Feb time frame)

There are a few here on this forum who have installed BAVSOUND speakers into their ZHPs. I know there are much better solutions out there if you want better sound quality. I have a very solid setup on my M3 thanks to Kyle but for the ZHP I wanted a solution that was much more plug and play as I am okay having the HK stereo setup in this car as is...

The ZHP came with a few blown speakers when I got it and I have "tolerated" them and this year I decided to do something about it for the 2022 car season... there will be more work planned for the ZHP. This car has been getting lots of love.... that's for sure... :cool

Let me know after you install the front door speakers and if you had an issues with clearance.
The front door speakers protruded further out than the oem HK ones so it would hit the metal door skin and not allow for the most bottom door clip to click in properly.

Pretty straight forward plug and play. The hardest part is probably peeling off all the weather proofing silicone and not ripping the weather foam.
The speakers sound decent considering it's new and not close to 20 years old. I wish there was a solution to the subwoofer with this kit... a little lacking in that department

I might have to do some fabrication work to make these subs fit due to the larger magnet being used but all in a day's work... I'm looking to do a complete refresh of all my speakers and unfortunately BAVSOUND dropped the ball where our subs are concerned so this ends up being an experiment to find out which new speaker works best in our HK setup. :)

The Rockford Fosgate 6x9’s required NO cutting to clear the holes. “Just Sayin” [emoji13]
I only had to remove some of the plastic trim at each mounting hole so the speaker would sit flush.

I ordered my rear electric sunshade so this upcoming payday I will be sourcing a new center console switch unit which will have the electric sunshade button on it. So I will also be going forward with the rear electric sunshade retrofit for this daily cruiser :cool

I have enough wire to route to the front of the car where I will be connecting them into pins 14 (yellow) and 15 (white) on the large brown plug that plugs into the switch module to complete the retrofit once I have the rear sun blind installed. It will be another nice OEM feature to add to my ZHP :)

Wiring won't be a PITA. I will detail this install when I do the retrofit and you will see just how easy it is to route the wire. You will need long wires (two) to route up along the passenger side and to the center console where they will be inserted into the switch unit plug assembly.

Still is Sergy. I'm considering getting a new rear parcel shelf for this project :cool

https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-bmw-parts/parcel-shelf/51468289513/

Edit: the hardest part for me will be cutting the rear parcel shelf to mount the rear electric sun shade. The wiring will be easy although most likely time consuming to route the wires properly thru since I will be taking off the glove compartment when routing the wiring up thru the passenger's side and across the back of the glove compartment to the center console so I can plug in the wires into the plug that attaches to the switch module. From what I have researched, this is not too difficult to retrofit.

I have heard about the Edition 33 but that was exclusively for the touring model and came in three exterior colors (Silverstone Metalic, Le Mans Blau Metalic and Estoril Blau Metalic) and were sold in Europe. If you can find them those are incredibly rare and most likely very expensive to source but would not look right being on sedans in my opinion however they would be unique :thumbsup

Until I started searching for these BMW Individual door sills I did not know about the BMW Special Edition door sills and a full set recently sold on eBay.

Thanks for your generous offer! I don't feel right installing those door sills however since the Performance Package - ZHP option was developed by BMW Individual group, I have no issue installing these door sills on my ZHP.

Since I sourced the used rear sunshade assembly from a '99 BMW on eBay recently, I decided to purchase this rear sunshade repair kit from AGA Tools and install this kit into my rear sunshade assembly so the sunshade sliders won't ever fail as the new sliders are made of aluminum and the original sliders are made out of plastic which will break over time.

https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220115/d1b36da628f6d1989c0c4f7911168bb3.jpeg

https://agatools.com/products/sunshade-repair-kit

So with this purchase I have the following items lined up to do this retrofit once the weather warms up just a little bit . . .

- Sun Blind assembly, BMW pn: 51-46-8-202-185

- Sun Blind Motor Assy, BMW pn: 67-65-6-916-270

- Fillister Head Screw, BMW pn: 07-14-9-149-399 (used to secure the sun blind assembly to the rear deck)

- Switch Unit, BMW pn: 61-31-6-925-512 (with heated seats, DSC, HK, TPMS, sunblind switches)

- 22 gauge, 100’ roll Yellow wire (used to make up the wiring loom for rear sun shade to center console switch module)

- 22 gauge, 100’ roll Brown wire (used to make up the wiring loom for rear sun shade to center console switch module)

- BMW Cloth tape (I got two rolls just to make sure I have more than enough)

- AGA Tools Sun Blind repair kit (see link under picture above)

There are DIYs out there, most notably from delmarco (Olaf) but pictures from his DIY are no longer available so all you have are the steps. He also has a few videos of his rear sunshade retrofit and you can look for them however none of them use the center console switch module that I am using for my retrofit as his was done using the individual sun shade switch so his procedure will be slightly different from how I will be doing mine.

EDIT: (26JAN22) Sunshade repair kit was installed onto my rear sunshade assembly. I won't have to worry about the plastic sliders breaking now. :)

For those of you who have the factory sunshade in your sedans or coupes, this is something you should consider doing as the slider clios are made of plastic and will eventually fail.

Since I will be retrofitting this option into my ZHP with a sunshade assembly from a 1999 BMW sedan on its way to me, I have decided to purchase this repair kit and do the repairs preemptively. The only problem I would have from my rear sunshade assembly, if ever, will be the motor failing so I will order the motor assembly separately and put it aside as spares in the event I have this failure.

As time continues, E46 parts such as the rear sunshade and components for it will become expensive or NLA so that is why I source some parts.

As soon as my fasteners arrive from FCP Euro, I will begin the process of retrofitting the rear sunshade assembly into my ZHP. I want to remove the rear parcel deck shelf and take everything off and then refinish the surface so it is nice and black again after making the cutout for the rear sunshade assembly. Then reassemble everything, run the wiring harness all the way to the conector plug for the switch module then wait for ECS Tuning to ship out my switch module so I can have everything finished.

Since my rear subwoofers are ready to be reinstalled, I will also be swapping out my subwoofer housings for fresh subs. Then when BAVSOUND speakers arrive, I can install them and be finished with that part of the refresh. Still lots of work to do to completely refresh this car...

Aluminum sliders have been installed on my rear sunshade assembly today. All that is left is having some nice weather so I can start taking apart the rear interior of the sedan to remove the rear parcel shelf, make the cut where the rear sunshade will mount, then reapply black fabric paint to restore the parcel shelf, route the wiring so that it is run from the back to the center console switch module plug and I will be finished with that part of my rear sunshade retrofit until the new switch module arrives.

Also received a notice from BAVSOUND that my new speakers have shipped and will be arriving in a few days... perhaps I can do the rear sunshade retrofit as well as a complete speaker refresh including new subs... should make for a fun day :thumbsup

Yeah, funny how that works but I'll take it. My rear electric sunshade came from Riga, Latvia as well as other items I have recently gotten for my ZHP... they all have arrived in perfect condition so whoever is selling them from there is doing it right. No complaints at all :)

Progress I made today on blauzed is that I changed out fasteners on my rear subwoofer enclosures so I could secure the new speakers securely into them:
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51856836446_165886ca39_h.jpg

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51856920633_09becc6756_h.jpg

and I finished my rear sunshade wiring harness by soldering in both ends with their proper connectors (one end to plug into the rear sunshade assembly and the other end to insert into the plug assembly for the center console switch module). All I have to do now is to remove the rear parcel shelf, make the hole for the rear sunshade then refinish the top with a fresh coat of black fabric spray and then reassemble everything. For me the easy part will be running the wiring from the back to the front center console.

Once the rear sunshade has been installed and secured I will then focus on replacing all the speakers inside blauzed with fresh ones. I have been told the BAVSOUND speakers I will be installing will need time to "break in" and then the sound will improve. I am looking forward to having fresh speakers including fresh subs in this car. Perhaps I might entertain finishing the stereo upgrade with the addition of the AVIN4 head unit but I'm still on the fence as I am not sure I want to lose the BlueBus functionality I now have . . .

I need someone who has done this and has the BlueBus interface tell me they have no issue using BlueBus with the AVIN4 head unit. This is the only thing holding me back from going forward with the AVIN4 setup.

The final part for my rear sunshade retrofit arrived today. Weather has not been cooperating and now my body requires rest to recuperate from being sore all over. It freaking sucks feeling this way.

Once the weather is good and I'm feeling much better I will install these parts into blauzed[emoji41]

Today I purchased a few things in support of my upcoming retrofit.

a high temp glue gun
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220209/d6655bbf25edb9f13008166d6089f4c6.jpeg

and some Matte Black Fabric Spray Paint for my rear parcel deck shelf after I cut out the hole needed to mount my rear sunshade[emoji57]
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220209/16923f530ca14ebbb4f954029ee9bbbe.jpg

I will go forward with changing out all my speakers starting tomorrow thru Saturday. I plan to get the rear parcel deck shelf out on Friday so I can make the necessary cuts then refresh it with fresh black paint before reinstalling everything[emoji41]

Brushing the dried paint between coats can help keep it from becoming too stiff. YMMV. Good luck!

Steve, for the E46 sedan this is it. There are no other features/button you can add that I know of in that blank spot. The Sport button goes here for M3's.

Our 2002 325xi had a button for slow decent (better traction?) in bad weather. Pictogram of a car going down a hill.

I forgot that the xi had this feature but you have to have all wheel drive to use this feature. For my ZHP this is it as far as it gets as far as I know . . .

I have begun the process of replacing my speakers inside my ZHP this afternoon. Even though I have not been feeling 100% for the past week with my entire body feeling sore and now my left knee killing me (old skiing injury) it has been fun taking the car apart to install these BAVSOUND speakers. For this install I decided to use my hot glue gun instead of the glue BAVSOUND provides. I took my time and got the driver's side finished. Tomorrow morning I will focus on getting my passenger's side done then I will work on swapping out my rear subwoofer enclosures.

The rear parcel shelf midrange drivers won't be swapped out just yet because I want to have an entire weekend of good weather so that I can take apart the rear parcel shelf to do the necessary cuts and then refresh the color with fresh black fabric paint before reinstalling the parcel shelf with rear sunshade on it... so lots more work to do. In the mean time I will refresh the door seals with ones I recently procured so progress will be made nevertheless. I still have a few more things I want to do to get my car set up ;)

after installing this midrange driver speaker in my front door panel, I tested my stereo and these speakers thumped. Looking forward to completing my install[emoji41]

The rear midrange speaker was not as easy to set up and install as the front midrange speakers were and required a lot more glue to get it set up where I was comfortable installing it.
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220212/1901bc203403e7544443ecd19756b180.jpg
as you can see in the picture above, I put a bead of hot glue all around the speaker where it meets the mounting hardware in order to secure it so it can be screwed in place on the rear door panel.
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220212/bca04e0ca905965334e90d21d03340f5.jpg
On the rear midrange speaker, pictured above, there are 4 tabs where the plastic on the mounting hardware goes thru then is slightly melted to keep the speaker in place. The new speaker does not have these tabs so that's where the hot glue comes in handy[emoji1417]

Sergy, not sure if I can capture the fidelity of the sound coming from the new speakers using iPhone. In order to capture the true fidelity you have to have some serious recording equipment . . .

I will be sourcing a UUC Corsa TSE3 exhaust for blauzed, even if I have to source a brand new one . . .

I finished installing my BAVSOUND speakers into my ZHP today. I now understand why people who have installed these like them. Sound output is very good from them, especially midrange performance. Compared to the 18 year old H&K paper cone speakers that was in my ZHP having these newer speakers is a huge improvement. Many have told me that there is a break in period for them before they sound even better. If this is the case, I'm looking forward to how they will sound . . .

It'll only sound better with time, so I'm told by ZHPizza. He said initially sound was flat, but improved significantly within a few months.

It's definitely on my list of purchases

All speakers have break in periods. For my monitors it was about 100h.

This June I will be taking in my Style 135's to have them all repaired (curb rash removed and wheels rebalanced) then have the old finish bead blasted and cleaned so I can have fresh powder coating applied. The finish I decided to have will be a fresh HyperBlack finish for these wheels. They should come out close to these when finished...

It will be nice to have them looking fresh when mounted for the winter months... the picture above is the closest I could find for the look my ZHP will ultimately have. :cool

Wow what a list. How do you like the Bavsound speakers?

I did not know a quality bluetooth module like the BlueBus existed for old BMW's. It looks like there's a waiting list for them to be produced again. Is there anything else that you would recommend to add bluetooth capability to the OEM stereo with the Harman Kardon package? Looking good. I wish every E46 on the road looked that pristine.

It is easy at this point to say they are a huge improvement in sound as compared to the 18 year old H&K speakers the car came with from the factory. It is easy to outperform old paper cone speakers.

With that said, I feel these BAVSOUND speakers are money well spent and worth every penny. Ease of installation was key and not having to redesign the entire sound system while maintaining the OE functions was why I went this way this time around.

I signed up for my second BlueBus and to be honest it is worth the wait to get Ted's product. It is updated and Ted is awesome in his responses. You have superb product support and if you have any issues a simple PM will help resolve them. I plan to remove my Intravee II setup in favor for Ted's BlueBus setup this summer when I order my second device. Regarding your question regarding anything else I would recommend other than BlueBus? No, I won't recommend any other device as you're wasting your money if you end up replacing it with BlueBus. Better wait it out and get this. You won't regret it. :thumbsup

Speakers turned out well and I'm glad I refreshed my door speakers. The weather over here has not been cooperating regarding modding so my rear parcel shelf mid drive speakers and rear subs will be installed once weather improves.

Yesterday a BMW accessory item arrived that I will be installing into my ZHP thanks to Daniel. Adding the little things to my car as well[emoji41]

I can see the humor in getting the BMW Umbrella when you can source one for much cheaper ;) I never thought I would buy this accessory but when a friend of mine, one who put a carbon fiber CSL bootlid on his 3-series BMW sedan, told me this was one of the BMW accessories he really wanted for his car I realized "why not?" and just got this . . . lol

So I will mount this into my car per instructions provided and then leave it there as decoration because I can [emoji38][emoji38][emoji38]
