+1 The free space while shifting seems like a fantastic idea, but it will probably leave you panging for an armrest on long highway cruises.

I guess my short arms enable me to not have any problems with the armrest...and it is right in the sweet spot for my right arm at all times unless the arm is in motion

I'm amongst your ranks as well. Deleted it because I couldn't get the last bolt to cooperate when putting a replacement in, so I decided to leave the armrest out. Will be buying the console to match at some point.yeah! now I haz a friend with no armrest
