There is no drilling required to install city lights, Derek. You just buy the bulb, the socket, and the wires for them, and either hook them up to your angel eye harness if you have one or you hook them up to the LCM and code the LCM for euro spec, then it'll work with the light switch. I wanted mine as daytime running, so I used the angel eye harness method (my harness was hooked up to ignition so I kept it).

These lights are much dimmer and more subtle, since they are only 5W bulbs. Compare:

City lights (this is an E36 but it looks the same on E46):

    Daytime Running Lights:

Daytime Running Lights (DRL) are just the flash-to-pass/halogen high beam lights at 50% brightness.

... And... how does one go about doing this or "programing" these things? I am not much of a DIYer, but am willing to try things if they aren't too much for a biginner.

The programming part is not straightforward, and you need the software and hardware to be able to do it. The dealer cannot program your LCM for euro spec.
The wiring is easy, but if you're not going to code it then there's no point.

You're better off buying an angel eye harness and wiring these bulbs up to that instead of going all the way up to the LCM.
There are plenty of DIYs out there that tell you how to hook up an angel eye harness. I bought my harness from Khoalty.com.

Other than that, you'll need the Part # for the bulb, the socket, and the "bushing contacts" (the wires). I'm feeling lazy and tired at the moment... I'll dig up part numbers a little later.

Lawd... that seems like a lot...

BP, I think you actually did some coding on my car. I have Chris' ("hokies") jet black sedan. I just remember him saying that "BP had coded....". No clue what you did though.

Thanks BP, if there is no drilling, is there just a rubber grommet blocking it?

I was thinking of wiring it up to the rear parking lights wire in the LCM so I don't have to activate it to LKM. I wanted the city lights to go on with parking lights and delete my corner lamps power

Today, I had M3 motor mounts and transmission mounts installed. I had bought these over poly mounts because I have read some reviews stating that the vibrations were very obvious when the car was revving at low RPM after installation.

Having these mounts installed I can say the car has a cooler personality now with the way it drives.

I really do think it would be worth hooking it up to your LCM, if you want it to function that way. That's how it would function when coded.

I love my M3 motor mounts. Oddly enough when I was buying the mounts, they were cheaper than 330i mounts...

Thanks for the advice BP. Chances are I may order Angel Eyes and wire it to the LCM and recode it to an LKM.

    They still are cheaper.

You don't need an angel eye harness if you go the coding route.

Don't I need wiring to go to the LCM to city lights in the first place though?

Yes; the city lights require two wires going from their connectors to run up to the LCM. An angel eye harness isn't required for this. AE harnesses don't connect to the LCM at all.
