Problem is the carbon fiber hood is not part of the vision I have for my ///M. I'm not a big fan of the "GT-R" vents you commonly see on carbon fiber hoods. Then there's the fitment issue....not all carbon fiber hoods have perfect fitment (an important criteria for me). This is one of the major reasons why I'm replacing my Scorza CSL bootlid for an OEM CSL bootlid.....perfect fitment.

When the time comes for me to boost the ///M with an ESS VT-550 kit, the weight of my OE hood won't be a factor in performance.....the car will still be plenty quick for me.

Was just saying it's a good enough weight savings to at least consider. Any pro shop can get a good piece to fit well and they aren't all GTR style vented and when painted look completely oem/stock. Just depends how much you want to pay. The vents don't do it for me but adding under good weight can throw off the balance a bit - switching out he good could bring it back to oem ratio in that case.

Again not about whether you do it or not - it's your car and decision. I just was surprised with the quick response of I'd NEVER do it.

Seth, remember when BMW produced a few ///M3 GTRs for sale so they could race their GTRs? The OE hood that was on that GTR is the hood I would love to have on my ///M. Not the carbon fiber "GTR" hoods that you see currently made. Why couldn't they reproduce the exact hood that the factory GTR had come with??? I don't know but that's the hood I really love...it's not too over the top like current GTR rep hoods are and it's very clean in design...just the way I like it... Anyway since I don't know how I can get one of those directly from BMW....I'll just stay with the stock aluminum hood that my ///M has....it works for me.

Majority of the time, vents are used to extract heat though.

If the factory m3 hood is aluminium, I would leave it on since the majority of the aftermarket hoods are heavier. Unless of course they are dry-carbon

I'm almost 100% sure the stock M3 hood is factory aluminum. I bet the savings in weight is probably 14lbs at the most..

Yeah but the VT-550 will generate over 500hp....I'm okay with the slight additional weight of this supercharger kit and factory aluminum hood.....an ///M with VT-550 installed along with improved headers/exhaust will outperform any stock ///M any day of the week....as I said...plenty fast enough for me

The stock ///M hood is factory aluminum.....unless anyone knows how I can source an OEM factory GTR hood I'm not interested in replacing the factory hood on my ///M.....
