Tech followed up. Turns out the oil filter housing is indeed cracked, but pump and alternator are both OK.

Would a kind soul be able to look for a used OFH on car-part.com either close to 21218, 06460, or somewhere else along the I-95/I-87 corridor between DC and Montreal? I'm currently in the US (without a laptop so I can't search) and parts are cheaper here, so it'd be very appreciated!

Any idea what it might be listed under?

Thanks a lot for the help guys. I ended up finding a good one on eBay for $45 shipped. I'm throwing in a cooling system refresh at the same time since my water pump was done for (and close to the mileage where PM is needed anyway).

I picked up most of the genuine stuff I needed from BMW of Morristown, they have outstanding pricing - eg. $17.86 for the gallon of coolant, and I drove by FCP to get my OEM components (pump, thermostat, hoses, etc) - their offices are absolutely beautiful!

If everything goes according to plan, the car will be off the lift Friday.
