Probably gold in color only Shawn. Not real gold. Gold is way too soft to be used in any mechanical application (suspension components in this case)....

I got the idea from Gary. He has this setup on his ///M. This way it is direct to the battery terminal and clean. I don't have to move my subwoofer around or take anything out of the way to access the battery.

Since today was a half-way decent day I took the time to change out my HID fogs on the M3 for the new X5 LED fogs I recently got.

http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160304/37e88289abbcd854ac92704babe8e096.jpg

The first thing I needed to do was mod the mounting bracket. On the outboard side on both fog lights I had to straighten out the 90 degree bend and make it straight... but before I could do that I had to remove the height adjusting screw in the back...
https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1713/26265206221_ee3efdff27_c.jpg

the tabs on the screw are cheap plastic so I took my time taking this screw off...
https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1566/26058561040_803a279a3a_c.jpg

Then there are two small phillips retaining screws that screw the bracket onto the fog light housing....take them off too then you can remove the bracket...

https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1497/25726589124_1fff4f8ee1_c.jpg
You can see in the picture above I had already straightened out the outboard side of this bracket... (left side in the pic)

https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1693/26265205881_e965c135fe_c.jpg

https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1444/26265205971_0ed5056e45_c.jpg

Then I had to fabricate a tip (temporary - will have a final solution soon) so that the fog light could be secured where a tab usually would go into the bumper... not too hard to make...
https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1518/26331430025_b220e7f899_c.jpg
https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1516/26265206751_77715c1897_c.jpg

Got the passenger's side swapped out first... here's a first look at LED fogs on my M3
https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1469/26265206541_b2ee6780bf_c.jpg

Connected the driver's side and will be repeating the process I used to do the passenger's side to mount the driver's side fogs...
https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1657/26305473856_3d2486f24b_c.jpg

Finally finished mounting these LED fogs and I love how clean they look but I will add they need adjusting and the OE trim piece do not fit perfectly on them as the surface of the X5 Fogs are curved. I will have to trim the trim pieces so that they will fit better.
https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1502/26265205491_bf9e216e29_c.jpg

I still have to aim these fog lights since they have height adjustment screws on them... so I will be working on these until they are perfectly mounted.... including the trim pieces... so far they change the look of the car and provide a much cleaner appearance :thumbsup I like them! :)

Here's another look at the LED fogs...
https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8897/26696226402_283c69ae5a_o.jpg
They are clean and bright! You can see in the picture above that the inner mount lines up perfectly so you can secure the fog light with the 8mm screw (shown inside the red circle).

Best part is that my LCM no longer flickers the high beam indication on my instrument cluster whenever I turn on these LED fogs. :thumbsup

EDIT: Funny thing about these LED fog lights...

https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7315/26765013686_85079763de_o.png

It says above that these fog lights are not compatible with E46 BMWs however I never plugged in details for my M3 (pictured above) for compatibility when I purchased these lights.

They do work and I have not had any issues running with them. The reason they say these lights are not compatible is because you will have to modify the outer mounting bracket in order to get these lights to mount.

These LED fog lights use 20 watts whereas the factory 9006 fog light bulbs use 30 watts so using these LED fog lights won't harm the electrical wiring of the E46.

Very nice job, they look awesome :thumbsup

Thanks John! I was amazed by how easy this was to retrofit since the fog enclosures are already there.... I would say the hardest part will be to shave the trim piece so that they will fit against the fog lights... this will be work in progress but the good thing is that the weather will be getting warmer and it will be much easier to work on the car then :)

What did the car go to dealer for?

I had the dealer change all fluids, change out the fuel filter and do my alignment.

Yes I can do the fluid change myself but it was easier just to have the dealer deal with the used oil rather than transporting that mess in my car...

Your car is definitely one to be proud of. All of that hard work pays off - not only in personal satisfaction but when you see all the attention it gets...

Thanks Rob! As you well know, it takes a lot of work to get any car to the level where anyone takes the time to look it over during the course of their working day... let alone to text pictures and then say other's are taking pictures of the car... it's been a very fun journey for me for sure ;) :thumbsup

https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1635/26143303554_f89d107288_o.jpg

The noticeable gap I had using my OE fog light trim is much less noticeable using my Hamman fog light covers.

Inboard fitment is perfect

http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160501/71d7556c54fab67fec44d48e8d0392f7.jpg
Outboard fitment shows the gap but is reduced.

These gaps are caused by the curvature of the X5 fog light lens. The E46 fog light lens in comparison is flat. I figure I can get some black hard foam-type material to form and fill in the gap :)

Seeing this led me to looking seeing if I could get one for my M3 and tonight I ended up ordering a black one for my M3. My ZHP already has a red G.A.S. 1.2 Bar Coolant Cap so it only made sense for my M3 to have one ;)

Reading through Charlie's project threads is a lesson in restraint for me because I would love to do a lot of the things he's done to his cars. They're all aesthetic or performance improvements that I think are excellently executed, but make my wallet cry tears of sadness and despair if I went down the road on some of them.

Don't laugh, it's true.

I have an ex-gf (henceforth known as Crazy Eyes) who works at a local Toyota dealership. Charlie and i spoke about the "crossroads" of his life recently. He was bored with BMWs and I put him in touch with Crazy Eyes. One thing led to another... He paid off his M so the new buyer doesn't have to wait for a lien release and Charlie will be picking up his slightly used Camry next week.

If i have seen it once, I have seen it a thousand times... Mid-life crisis and BAM! Camry in the driveway.

Appreciate your candor and advice Ray! :thumbsup At least I no longer have to worry when my S54 will die due to VANOS issues... Also, having a car with full warranty is reassuring with the way kids drive their cars these days.... got tired of worrying about getting hit by stupid drivers...

When I found out my M3 was only worth $8k...... yeah, I put in so much time and money into this car and it's only worth a freaking measly amount?! I said f*** it and sold the car. Got a brand new 2016 Camry for my new daily driver (which is worth much more than my old M3). Car has full factory warranty and all the bells and whistles these new cars come with these days... it was time for a change, sorry to disappoint anyone. Jeff, just sold a set of BBS CH wheels for the M3 this morning... still going thru my garage - got lots of "junk" that is worthless (seat shells and stuff) that need to "go away"....the Camry deserves a cleaned out garage rather than have stuff all around her...

This thread will remain primarily focused on my M3, hence "Charlie's ///M Project Thread" :) I might make reference to what you're hinting about in a brand new thread....hint - hint... ;) The future for my ///M is strong... I have a very good feeling that the ///M will eventually become my "beater car" replacing my ZHP in those duties... the ZHP will eventually leave my garage and become my daughter's first BMW... she will get a fully optioned, sorted out ZHP by the time she graduates from college...

The Hankook Ventus V12 Evo2's I purchased last week were tested on Friday when I had to drive in the rain for two hours. In some areas it had rained really hard and in others there were puddles and I was driving my M3 at speed (70-80 mph) on the highway. As far as I'm concerned, wet traction was more than satisfactory and the tires were relatively quiet but then I always play my car stereo loud and I couldn't hear any road noise from the tires...

Dry traction was more than sat and I had two other adults in my M3 while cornering close to 60mph in a 20mph clover leaf on dry pavement... these tires gripped and there were no slippage throughout...

As far as I'm concerned, these Hankooks are awesome tires for what you pay... they are awesome street tires...
