Thanks guys :)

We (I) need you to finish up a full write up for the bmwp rear brakes on the zhp first!

Haha, those brembos look great.

You're absolutely right Jacob :thumbsup Lots have been going on here at my end this season as you know... I agree I need to get back to my ZHP and finish the BMW Performance BBKs...

Damn son!!! Any reason on that instead of the 996 caliper set up?

Got an offer from the seller I could not refuse... and this brake system is nearly identical to what my 997tt comes with from the factory (6-pot front/4-pot rear) :)

I'm on track for getting my Brembo GT BBKs in March then I will be looking to get a new set of wheels so I'll be sourcing OEM CSL wheels for my ///M for the 2017 season....

As soon as I do this I will be going forward with the 135i rear caliper retrofit to my ZHP (which is long overdue)....

Beautiful! I love these wheels (not that I don't love ARC-8s), but an OE option...lightweight and look great - nice move! Correct me if I'm wrong, the CSL set has a wider front wheel than the Competition package? What is the plan for rubber on these?

I don't know about it being "light" (25ish lbs front and 27+ lbs rear), but they do look fantastic. There's a reason so many manufacturers make reps and so many people buy the non-OE option.

Yes, surprisingly not light-weight (but not heavy) and absolutely beautiful. Plus very cool being the real deal.

Fair point, not light compared to an aftermarket lightweight wheel like the ARC-8 (20-21lbs for 19's), but for 19" Genuine BMW wheels...23.8lb up front and 25lb rears - pretty light relatively speaking

Correct me if I'm wrong, the CSL set has a wider front wheel than the Competition package?

The ZCP front wheel is 19x8, the OEM CSL front are 19x8.5

What is the plan for rubber on these?

Going to get Michelin Piot Super Sport tires for my M3 in CSL fitment (235-35-19 front and 265-30-19 rear)

I would get the new Pilot Sport 4S tires but they don't make the right size for the rears in OEM CSL fitment...

With the new BBK setup my 18 inch ARC-8s will no longer fit so that's why I'm going up to 19 inch wheels on my M3.

Yes, surprisingly not light-weight (but not heavy) and absolutely beautiful. Plus very cool being the real deal.

As you know John, all the CSL parts I have on my ///M (with exception of my rear diffuser panel) are OEM CSL [emoji57]

The upgrade to my brakes for the ///M is almost ready to start... I will have this kit purchased by the 17th. I am in the process of sourcing new wheels and right now it's between getting a set of BBS CH wheels (19x8.5 +35 front / 19x10 +20 rear) or OEM CSL wheels... I will have decided by the 17th. Anyway... this will be happening for the upcoming 2017 season. Good things lined up in Charrie's garage....

Tonight I contacted someone who is in the process of selling their BBS CH wheels (in mint condition) and decided to come back to this style of wheel for my M3... the pull was strong with this wheel....price wasn't too bad either ;)

At one point while documenting this project thread I posted that I was eventually planning to supercharge this car and someone posted I should install the OEM CSL airbox... well I have since changed my mind since picking up my turbo'd Porsche and have decided I may end up doing just that... When the opportunity came up for me to purchase a new set of seats (previous post above) an opportunity to buy an OEM CSL airbox also came up and I was told there will be more opportunities for me to do just that.... here are a few pics of the one that is currently available for the $5k selling price being offered (no, I'm given a lower price for this if I wanted it) ;)

Botond is right I do have the ZHP but I first have to ask JP if he still wants my M3 seats since he called dibs on them.

Jacob, OEM CSL front seats do not have carbon fiber backs...

but they are OEM CSL....that's what matter to me...

That's a bummer. Great looking seats but for them being OEM CSL I would expect carbon fiber given other CSL bits are (door panels, console, intake, etc). They'll still look great in there though and keep you snug

cakM3
02-20-2017, 05:27 AM
You're right Jacob, they should. Since I'm not using my M3 for long-distance runs these days and primarily keeping it to local cruising/cars & coffee events she's more or less have become a garage queen and this opens me up to other options regarding interior upgrades....

I hate to dissappoint but neither of my BMWs are getting boosted... I already have a "boosted sled" in my garage and she's wicked fast! Eventually I will be getting an OEM CSL air box for the ///M since I decided to keep her NA... so much more to do still....maybe in the future after I do an engine rebuild I may entertain boosting her...

I love Brembo's attention to detail with their products. The installation was a breeze because of the way they designed their kit.

For example:
My most dreaded part of any caliper swap is having to deal with the fluids. Trying to get the old brake hoses off and the new ones on is usually something I wish I could skip. With this kit, however, it was way easier than I expected. The stainless brake hoses that attach to the caliper attach with a banjo bolt instead of the stupid "thread it in" style hose that the stock brakes use. The line is also bent at the head to make it easy to clear the caliper during installation so it doesn't scratch it up. The top part of the hose that attaches to the hard brake line is also a breeze to install. I didn't have to "two wrench" it; all I had to do was screw in the hard brake line into the hose and that was it. No rotation or PITA fitment issues for the wrench. It was that easy. There was plenty of slack so you can route the hose the way you need to without worrying about stretching during hard turning.

Having arrived there not wanting to deal with the brake hoses, the ease of installation left me feeling excited to start the rears next weekend. :thumbsup

Today my M3 got a much needed oil change and rear brake sensor replacement as well as a 4-wheel alignment.

The mechanic working on my car today told me that my M3 is the cleanest and best kept example he sees coming to the dealership.

One of my friends working in the parts department also said the mechanics all talk about how you can eat off of my engine compartment because its so clean.

Apparently they all use my M3 as their "reference standard" for well-kept M3s.

All I can say is that it was nice hearing all of this and all I can do is keep trying to take good care of my cars [emoji41]

It's a labor of love for sure! [emoji1417]

Don't you love validation? haha I'm the same way. Love the feedback.

I agree it's always nice to get validation of the work you put into your car :thumbsup I like to use the feedback I get from people who are in the business of fixing cars as an indication whether or not I'm staying on course.

I have been accused in the past of ruining a car due to putting on cheap "Korean made" quality parts but then that was their opinion. To me if the part looks right and is of good quality, in other words the part has not gotten any negative feedback from the community overall, then I personally don't see any issue with using that part. It's not like I'm using a part that just came out with no history to it. I'm very selective on what I put on my cars and my cars show that when compared next to stock versions of the same car. Point is that there will always be haters out there. just follow your vision and as long as you keep your car maintained and clean... you should be okay :thumbsup

Thanks for your comment on my project thread Ridgey! :thumbsup

oh, one more thing I would like to add is that as nice as my cars are... I know there are others out there that are much nicer than mine. I can come up with a few examples.... Adam's (M3Dragon) M3 is the reference standard I use when modding my M3 as I feel it is the best M3 in this country... then there's JeppeJ's custom converted M3 sedan... probably one of the nicest E46 examples in the world in my book. Both cars clearly in a level all by themselves. Shows just how far you can go if you desire :thumbsup

https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4178/33703566583_e32a35f270_k.jpg

Looking at their facebook page you will see that there were a lot of area enthusiasts there with all types of cars. This was an car enthusiast's meet and it was nice to see a lot of people of all ages rolling in with their cars :thumbsup

Then as I was leaving the event the staff took this pic and then posted it on their facebook page...

https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4182/34154749160_5b67068b67_b.jpg

I turned and as I did I recognized Herb coming up to my group (my friend Chris Nannan to my left) and I immediately said hi to him and thanked him for serving in the military and for setting up his annual cars and coffee meets. Then we started talking about cars and I mentioned to him I saw an episode on Chasing Classic Cars where his friend Wayne Carini of F-40 Motorsports helped him track down one of his Ferrari's. Needless to say we had a very pleasant chat and it was nice to meet someone who truly loves cars as much as a lot of us do :thumbsup

His next cars and coffee is on June 11th... looking forward to bringing my sled to this event :drevil because it will be at Herb Chambers Porsche of Burlington ;) Botond you should come with me this time.... I will let you take my M3!

As you can see in the above pictures, carkingtuning decided to stamp my photos with their logos then placed them on their for-sale ad on eBay. At first I thought it was cool but then when I noticed their logos on my pictures and that they were selling a product I have never seen from them, that's when I started having issues. I wouldn't want anyone to buy from them thinking what they are seeing from my pictures is what they are actually getting since I have never seen their products.

Since the vendor has not responded to my messages I have contacted eBay staff and am in the process of having this auction removed...

i had a similar issue whe i posted my car pictures on reddit using flickr links and then someone messagd me on FB letting me know that a popular e46 group on instagram posed a pic of my car but didnt credit the owner or photographer. i commented on the image saying "hey thats my car how about a mention of my use rname :)" but nothing.. then DMd them on instagram and got no response but they continued posting more pictures of other cars.... basically they make money posting other peoples cars usually with permission and since they had so many followers they leverage that for advertising with other companies etc...

since 3 days went by with no reply i just filed a copyright claim with instagram and the post was removed along with the 5000+ likes it had :) in a few hours. then they messaged me back saying hey why did you do that.

some people are just really entitled and have no clue how the world works.

I saw an E46 ///M on my way to work this morning and realized just how much I miss driving my M3... speaking of which, I am about to start tearing into my car so I can swap out my OEM front radiator support for a much stronger reinforced OEM M3 convertible front radiator support. Then cooling system components will be removed so I can do much needed cooling system maintenance. This will open up the opportunity to do the fan clutch delete/electric fan mod which I have wanted to do for a long time... This should also be a good time to install my Turner underdrive pulley kit so after everything have been swapped out and installed, the car will be so much more fun to drive when I take her out in Spring...

For 2018, I will follow thru with my rear PDC retrofit since I now have the OEM M3 rear PDC bumper, wiring harness, sensors and modules. Winter should be a great time to have my bumper prepped and painted... So much to do but man will it be fun to watch everything come together!

Oh and new front tires to mount then the car will be set...;)

thats awesome! so are you just going to cut all the retrofit BS and just buy a new set of euro power fold mirrors brand new and not mess with the silly power fold motor retrofit stuff?

if you go the retrofit route, i know a guy on the M5 boards that parts out M5s for a loving and always has bad power fold motors that have stripped gears. the motors are a direct fit and wire for M3s as well and you just need a $50ish gear repair kit form ebay/amazon. the power fold motors usually go for around $60-120 for a pair + $100 for 2 gear repair kits.

I think the euro power fold mirrors with out glass from BMW are around $700ish each mirror so around $1400 for a pair unless you get some kind of super cool snazzy discount.

These mirrors are OEM E46 M3 Euro autofold side mirrors. No retrofitting. They are plug and play unless they are painted another color. If that's the case then all I have to do is swap out base plates and mirror housings from one motor to the other. This is easy... The wiring harness and mirror control switch necessary to take advantage of the auto fold feature are already installed in my M3.

One other thing to add is I will also be swapping out my coilovers for a fresh set with Swift Spring upgrades over the winter months... so lots in store for my very special ///M ;)

Looking forward to getting them and then installing them onto my M3... it will be another nice addition in my quest to have "my perfect ///M" ;)

Turns out the M3 auto-fold side mirrors is a bust... the mirrors I was looking to get turned out to be the same mirrors that I have on my M3... so I will wait on this since each brand new auto-fold side mirror retails for close to $800 ea. I'm in no hurry to get this part although I think I should be. ;)

This weekend I will start tearing down the front of my M3 to replace my front radiator support (for coupe) and install one from a vert. The vert part is much stronger and reinforced part so I will end up with more support for the front. I will be doing prep work and I think I will take Gary's lead and get the electric fan mod to install this time around while refreshing all cooling components for my S54 motor. Oh, and I am replacing my OE hood (got something else planned for this part) and installing a VIS Xts Carbon Fiber Hood when completed with my upgrades... more carbon fiber parts for my M3 :drevil

I'm also sourcing a brand new Euro CSL headliner so getting all the parts needed to do the CSL carbon fiber roof install... even though this mod is taking a loooong time to get done, it will happen but not right now.... ZHP requires maintenance....

I also have a UUC EVO3 Short Shift kit for my M3 that I have not gotten around to installing. I'm going to order the DSSR from UUC then install the kit while doing all the other work I have already planned for the 2018 season. I know the ///M will be a blast to drive when I'm finally done with this work ;)

Is that the same hood Gary has? I like that it has only one big vent per side. CF roof will be awesome once you get it done. That's one thing Kristen is bummed about the M2. She is looking into DiNoc for the roof. We just have to see if it will look right.
I'm thinking about getting rid of the sunroof in my ZHP now that I'm having problems with it. The major hurdle is the headliner...

Yes, this is the same hood as what Gary has on his M3.

I hear ya Rob... eventually if and when I come to the time to do serious work on my ZHP... I’m gonna have to decide which path I’m going to go with her....

Currently thinking of using jeppej’s build thread as a template for my Imola ZHP’s overhaul when the time comes......... :drevil

I wish they made that hood for the sedan... I don't like the huge vents on the GTR replica hood

I agree, this looks much better than the E46 GTR hood.

I think this is the best looking aftermarket hood for E46 BMWs in my opinion.

Not a fan of the “GTR” style hood myself. To me it does not look right unless you go with a GTR style wide-body...

every time I see it. It just reminds me of my hood. Or the one Brian bought off Jojo@DPE and then filled in for his sedan.

I will be sourcing the Euro CSL headliner this upcoming weekend. I already have the roof bow and roof panel (obviously)... I think all I will need now is a new cover where the sunroof button mounts onto since I won't be needing that switch any more. I can't think of anything else I would need...

Charlie, what’s the difference between the CSL headliner? I’ve tried looking and all I can tell is maybe it doesn’t have the bump? Is there any other difference?

Well the insulation if you haven't gotten that already. And the glue if you want them to use a specific glue. Where are you getting the euro headliner from? I might get one too only because I like it without the bump more. But my current one works and there's a ton of room in the back whenever I climb back there to do something.

I know someone who has an extra euro headliner to sell. I told him about you and he said he will reach out...

I will look into getting the insulation for my headliner since I have a year before I will finally install the roof panel...

I have a decent set of ARC8’s sitting in my garage since putting on my Brembo GT BBKs. Since I can’t use these wheels any more I decided it was time for me to let them go...

As you can see there is plenty of tread left on these wheels. As soon as I get home from my trip I will be boxing these wheels for shipping out. I decided to give them to someone very deserving of these wheels...... I will be keeping the tire totes however...

This will be the start of my garage cleaning for 2018... I will miss these wheels... I have given away a set of wheels before ;)

Kyle, I think the VMR VB3 CSL Reps I gave you look awesome on your BMW [emoji41] I’m glad I was in a position to give you these wheels. You have and continue to be a very good friend to me! Thanks!! [emoji1417]

Can’t say too much for others that I have helped out however....

From what I have read over at M3Forum is that the Euro/CSL headliner has more head room whereas the US headliner has that bump reducing the amount of headroom you have... I would rather have the Euro/CSL headliner in my ///M ;)

It's the opposite. The US has more headroom. Especially in the rear if that even matters to anyone lol The bump is there to clear the bow that is welded which sits lower.
