While I am refraining from paying full pop for a 455 TCU for just bluetooth, I started to play with the AUX input.

As mentioned in a previous thread, I wanted audio line out to the AUX while be able to charge the phone. I have somewhat a terrible solution at the moment:

    BMW iPod Cable:

to a Apple Lightning 30-pin Adapter.

One odd thing happened when I ended plugging both the USB and the AUX together. The AUX disappeared from the radio modes! It only occurs when the phone is powered. I suspect that when the phone is powered, somehow the AUX line is getting power and shorting out causing the radio to think it's no longer connected.

It almost sounds like there is a ground loop and I need to add in a ground loop isolator. I'll think more about it tomorrow, but I bet that will solve the problem.

It turns out using a regular 3.5mm male to male cable and apple official lightning cable still causes the AUX to suddenly disappear. I really suspect the audio line's ground somehow is shorting making the BMW "AUX Check" think there is nothing plugged into the line-in.

It definitely looks like a ground loop isolator will be the solution to this.

Yup - I had the same issue and that's what fixed it. I hardwired it behind the sunglass compartment so it's super clean now!

Sounds great! What ground loop isolator did you get?

Just a $6 eBay one. I didn't notice a change in quality vs the OEM aux only. Your call if you wanna get something more beefy.

Cut both plugs off the GLI, and cut your OEM aux in the middle, and wire everything together. It's been like that for a year with no issues!

Thanks. I will take a look. I was going to look into getting ferrite cores as well.

Drove the BMW to work today. It feels good to drive it after a few weeks of the Prius.

The AFE intake is significantly quieter than the Gruppe M. I can't even hear it over the TSE3. The Gruppe M was able to be louder than the TSE3 before which is good n bad. LOL. Charlie will love it since he wants loud all over.

I'm also looking into getting 7" Swift springs as the rear looks a little too low and my adjustment on the coilover perch is close to the top already.
