Just got more bad news from work today and as a result....more priority shifting being done to my project thread....I will be delaying the purchase of the Recaro Sportster CS seats until my brother and I sell our parent's home which should be sometime in early summer. Unfortunately I have to keep some reserves aside until my job situation is squared away. In the mean time, I am now job searching for a new IT networking-related job....

The cost of living is much cheaper here in Asheville. (You know I gotta give you a little pushes here and there.)

On a serious note, that's probably a wise decision Charlie. Although it sucks.

cakM3
02-11-2013, 08:54 AM
Thanks everyone....yeah Ry it sucks but sometimes you have to do what you have to do...

I've got enough mods lined up for the ///M thanks to Kyle :)

Besides my new front bumper w/ Status Gruppe cf lip spoiler, Tekarbon rear cf CSL diffuser, ARC8 hyperblack (18x9.5/18x10.5) wheels, and a new windshield....I plan to install a stereo upgrade with Kyle's help :thumbsup

Given my current situation, I think that's more than enough for now...

I will keep Asheville in mind Ry ;)

On another note, I will be taking the ///M to the dealer so that I can have a brand new OEM BMW windshield installed. The old one has taking a beating and its time to change it out. At least I can have this done there and if there are any future issues, BMW will be on the hook for it...:)

Last Wednesday I took my ///M in to have the windshield replaced. I had the OEM BMW windshield replaced on the ///M and had it done at the dealership. At least the work will be warranted for two years so that's peace of mind in case I begin to see rust on my A-pillars... also had an unsightly dent on my roof just in front of my sunroof so I had that taken out while the ///M was in.

Funny thing is that my service advisor called me at the end of the day and recommended I leave the ///M there overnight so I agreed, then she mentioned that people (customers and workers) were going around my car to check it out and take pics....yes, I found that amusing. :)

I got a laugh when I read this...one thing I have learned with recent life-changing events in my life is that life is too short. I'm given an opportunity to enjoy mine and I do this through both of my BMWs.

I update my project threads so that I can share the process with everyone but it was never my intention to get people jealous or envious of what I have been doing. Also my project threads aren't aimed at how I have been "bragging" about my cars so I want to get that point out of the way as well... With that said, I don't intend to stop modding either of my cars. If I am given opportunities to get items from other forum members and/or sponsors, I'm going to do it regardless. My ultimate goal is to improve both of my cars and bring them to their previous glory. (this paragraph isn't aimed at you Torx but others here....you know who you are)...

Both of my cars are "rescue" cars and they both deserve so much more :thumbsup I have always and will continue to appreciate all the positive support from everyone here and hopefully won't disappoint in the process :)

Well said. Admittedly, I have a problem with being tight. Takes me forever to pull the trigger on things normally. Perhaps I should have said "inspired" rather than "envious." I harbor no ill will, nor did I think you were bragging. I just long to be able to do everything I want to be able to do to my cars like I'm sure many others, including you, on here do. And I do enjoy your project threads. Especially bc I get sentimental missing my M3. I think those seats will be fantastic. I would love to see them in person at some point. Cheers to you buddy.

Torx, as I said my comments were not aimed towards you but I took the time to address something that has been bothering me about some people here on this forum for a few months now....I have gotten the word from a few people that there have been a few who had made references that I have been bragging about both of my cars through my project threads and I took serious offense to this. Here we are bashing other forums because of imature behavior and then I'm told that there are a few who felt I was bragging....talking about being in high school!!!

That is when I made the reference that I was no longer considering updating my project threads here but then I decided to continue on whether there are others who continue to be jealous or envious of what I do. It's on them... not me. They are the ones who have to deal with their issues...it's very unfortunate that I have to address this here but frankly I was taken by surprise. Perhaps what I have been saying in my past few posts will cause them to reconsider their behavior towards me, if not then the heck with them... saying you're jealous or envous but in a positive way is one thing but when you show it in other ways.....that's another....

There have been a few who have been very supportive and I know "they" are my true friends here on this forum. The ///M is the last car that both my parents have seen and ridden in so it has huge sentimental value to me. As a rescue, I have taken my time to do all my mods as clean as possible while retaining the true BMW styling. It doesn't help when my best friend, another ///M owner, continues to upgrade his ///M (recently getting Recaro Sportster CS seats) so I am pushed (not too hard I admit) to pursue getting the BMW Performance seats. Yes they cost a lot more but in the end I know I will be very happy with what I have done to my ///M. In the end that's what matters. It's not about getting everyone's permission to do what I am doing but rather showing others what options are available to them if they too desire to incorporate some or all the mods that I have done to my cars. :thumbsup

So I have said a lot here but what I am trying to say folks is that take what I have put in my project threads for what they are.... options for all of you to review and see if any of them would work for you! :) Have fun modding your BMWs when you are able to but please don't harbor ill feelings towards others who are able to do much more than you...

I can't put myself in others shoes who misunderstood your posts, but to me, it's clear that you are only expressing the love of your art (your car), sharing it with others, and offering up potential options for others to look at. I know this wasn't addressed to me, but I want to answer this to say it's not an issue on an enthusiast forum to be enthusiastic about your craft/your car. I like that you have that passion and want to share it. Some people may misunderstand that, but if they knew you they wouldn't. We'll all live through it. Mod on, and I'll continue to be (happily) jealous of your mods. :rockon

Thanks John and Jon. This is my intent....to offer others an option where they can take their cars to. Knowing everyone have different tastes where modding is concerned, at least when looking at both my project threads they have another look at how I did mine so they too may have options they themselves didn't think about. That's the purpose of posting project threads...

I have seen some awesome projects, Jon's and Stuart's supercharged ZHP as well as Dane's ZHP. Both impeccable examples from where I have gotten my inpiration. Hopefully, I will get both of my BMWs up to their standards of excellence! :thumbsup

As far as I know, they only come in leather. You can get a great alcantara boot from Coby Wheel though.

Tonight I started out by cutting the attached boot off with a sharp knife, being careful not to scratch the bottom of the shift knob...resulting in a seperated shift boot :)
http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/03/08/hy5esyry.jpg

Then I seperated the plastic ring attached at the bottom of the shift knob...
http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/03/08/pydydyhu.jpg

There are two black clips, one on either side of the two wires which were cut off and one long silver clip opposite the black clips which was also taken off.

Then I carefully cut off the plastic ring from the wires to remove it...

Charlie - those seats will run you about $6000, you will need seat occupancy sensor bypass and likely custom seat bases

I had a set in my grasp and lost them to a shifty seller on eBay...took a month but I finally got my money back

cakM3
03-10-2013, 07:16 PM
Thanks Stuart, already got the occupancy sensor bypass. I'm in discussions with the vendor at the moment who offers them including seat rails. According to their web site -

Package Includes:
(2) Seats equipped with heating, side airbags, belt tensioners and seat rails.

At the moment, I don't think this will be an issue.

This year (2013) I plan to do the following for the ///M :)

- Recaro Sportster CS (heated/carbon back shell) seats
- Still seriously looking to supercharge this beast with an ESS VT550 kit
...That means that my Gruppe M CAI will have to come off....will most likely save it for my next E46 ///M
- Upgrade to full CSL rotor set (front/rear)
- Possibly do a BMW Performance BBK (front/rear) retrofit with Chad's help...:) Possibly

Was going to get BBS wheels but I really am liking my ARC-8s. Love the more aggressive concave look I now have with them....if only my 10mm spacers can get here on time!!!

I feel from having had BMWP, Brembo and Stoptech systems - you would likely find the Stoptechs to be the best in performance. And if you go with the ST-R series, they are SERIOUSLY light - for better unsprung weight

The BMWP are super heavy I found

Can't believe that it will be just a few days before I begin my long trip south....got a business trip in Manassas, VA next week and then I'll be visiting Bruce that Saturday before heading out to visit some friends in Fredericksburg over the weekend. Busy schedule throughout leading to Kyle's where I will be helping with the install of my new stereo and then Friday the 17th making the trip up to Dane's with Kyle. This morning I found out some info regarding the BMW Performance seats and have been convinced that they can and do fit the E46 platform. There are a few folks in Sweden who have them installed in their highly modded E46's :thumbsup With that said, I will be getting these instead for pretty close to the same pricing as the Recaro Sportster CS seats I was looking at...good news for me :)

Another thing I like about the Performance seats is that the cutouts are silver, which will match my TiAg color :) With that said....if all goes well and additional funds are available by summer then I will have these along with my BBKs by end of summer...:thumbsup

That will be it for my modding for a few years while my daughter goes off to college.....going to be hard not to mod folks.....

Stuart the difference between the Recaro Sportster CS (All black leather/heated/carbon backshell) and the Performance Seats come to $579. With that small of a difference there's no reason for me not to get the BMW Performance seats.....even if the difference was $1k....at this point I will be inclined to get them anyway just because this is the seat I really wanted to get to begin with....:thumbsup

For rolling up the windows with the FOB.
