Horny, I'll be in the Manassas VA area all next week. Perhaps we can meet up sometime during the next week? PM me if you want to :thumbsup

as for the ///M.... yeah one project at a time....I still have BMW Performance seats, StopTech BBKs, and an ESS VT-550 SC kit to install before I will say I'm complete with my ///M.....this will take many years to accomplish (VT-550) though....

Then there's the clutch update and exhausts to address, so there's lots of work to do still ;)

No battery tender needed, I was parked in neutral with the car running when Kyle was going through my stereo set up. I know better than running my stereo without the car running :) I have to admit that the audio is so clear now without any distortion at high volumes. The stock HK setup, as good as it was, clearly lacked compared to my new setup. I can never thank Kyle enough for taking the time to set my ///M up the week before the reunion meet. I had an awesome time getting to know his family and look forward to my upcoming project which will take me back to Corollo again ;)

You sir are a true enthusiast who appreciates a very well set up ride. Just watching you drive my car and seeing the appreciation in your face was reward enough for me. It was my most sincere pleasure to share my ride with you :thumbsup Not bad for a car with over 153k on the odometer, wouldn't you say?

Hopefully the ZHP will be equally as impressive during next year's meet :ninja

05-27-2013, 05:05 PM
Seth, I have a light smoke going on the tails. I love this look....glad you do as well :thumbsup Just showing how far you can take your ///M if you choose to :)

Remember.... my ///M is also a "rescue"... see what I have done so far? Fortunately, there are a few folks here who have seen my ///M in person. Some of them even got to drive and ride in the ///M so they know first hand how my car looks and feels.... at first it can get quite frustrating knowing you have things to deal with but if you're keeping the ///M for the long haul, things don't matter because you have all the time in the world to sort things out. My ///M is a continuing project which will ultimately lead to a well equipped and modded ///M. :thumbsup Seth, I know your ///M will end up being awesome! I know what you're going through my friend! If you have any question please feel free to give me a call :thumbsup

UdubBadger
05-27-2013, 05:06 PM
I do and was wondering if I could get away with a 50% tint on them to get a similar look.

cakM3
05-27-2013, 05:12 PM
I went with a light smoke because I didn't want to flirt too much with the LEO's here in Rhode Island. They're real anal about any type of tint up here in this whacky state....:facepalm

depends on the LEOs in your area Seth. I myself, prefer to go darker as the lights will contrast more with the Imola or TiAg. At one time I had my tails and corners really dark but decided to go lighter so that I wouldn't get pulled over as often...

Right now I have just enough to provide some contrast which is okay with me...:thumbsup

UdubBadger

I have been looking at braking systems recently since talking to Stuart at the Mafia reunion meet. The kit Stu recommended to me are the StopTech Trophy series BBK. I may end up doing my brakes first before doing seats although there's really nothing wrong with my OE brakes, After seeing Stuart's touring in person, I've been feeling the itch to change them out with something much better. Thanks Stu!!! :thumbsup Suggested retail on these are ~ $7200 so it's either I go with the Recaro Sportster CS seats and keep my stock brake setup or go with these and keep the ///M seats (which are comfortable enough for me) ...

The setup I'll be looking at are 355mm rotors on each corner / 6 piston calibers on the Front / 4 piston calibers on rear.

Thanks jayjay! Not really a tough choice...I figure it is always better to have awesome brakes before doing anything. The OE seats on the ///M already look great. Only problem is that they are heavy but then I have plenty of speed on the ///M already...:) Wouldn't you say Devlin and Dane? ;)

Charlie those brakes are amazing. Here's my thing. When I saw your ///M, I was insanely impressed with eveything. But, I'll be honest here, the brakes looked kind of wimpy compared to rest of the car. Everything was so amazing on your car, you need brakes to match. Like you said, the OEM seats are really nice. I think you'll get more out of the brake upgrade.

You'll use the seats everyday....but will only use the brakes 1% while you're driving :dunno

Yeah Dane but when I need that 1% I'll have awesome brakes when I need them. Long term is to boost my ///M so having these brakes already installed will be one less thing I need to do to my ///M ultimately....all part of my grand plan ;) Besides, these brakes will look awesome and fit in with my ///M perfectly :thumbsup

As for seats, the seats that come with my ///M are comfortable, look good, and I have full lumbar support w/ heat. Even though the Recaros are about half the weight, I can live with the OE seats until I have done everything else first...they will still be there when I'm ready to buy them :)

UdubBadger
05-28-2013, 02:51 PM
Charlie what about rear seat removal? I saw someone selling a carpeted kit on M3forums. Should save you tons of weight also.

cakM3
05-28-2013, 02:56 PM
Seth, I saw that as well but the rear seats don't weigh nearly as much as the front seats do. I wouldn't be saving too much...I've had all the seats out of the ///M (swapped grey for black)... I figured I'll retain the rear seats so they will match somewhat when I eventually install the Recaro Sportster CS seats down the road...

More importantly - the ST-R brakes are about 33% lighter than the regular ST brakes which are MUCH MUCH lighter (don't know percentage) than the OEM brakes (calipers and rotors)...thus less unsprung rate...much better than the 60lbs lost on the seats (TOTAL for two)

Yeah Dane but when I need that 1% I'll have awesome brakes when I need them. My best friend delivered his old ///M seats the other night :) I will be swapping out seat covers from my current seats to put on these since they are in like new shape. Time to replace my worn seats with a fresh set. :thumbsup

Now I can look into getting these when finances allow soon hopefully... :)

EDIT: I did not go with the Stoptech BBKs shown above. I ended up going with the Brembo GT BBKs with Yellow calipers instead.

I've reconsidered some mods in the past few days since getting these near mint condition ///M seats with full lumbar/side bolster support. I decided to use these seats in the ///M and take the old set out for the ZHP mod. Since I got my new seats for a real killer price, I can forego the Recaros for a few years longer and pursue the StopTech BBKs as soon as my financial situation frees up.....hopefully soon but until this happens I will have to wait to get the StopTech kit... Dario, I can't wait for the brakes either...:biggrin

Stig, I had to put some thought into what you posted here. At first I will admit I took things the wrong way but then realized that's because I haven't gotten enough sleep with college finals approaching...:) Now that I have had some time for what you posted to sink in....here goes :)

1) I'm glad you finally got here to check out what I have been up to regarding my ///M :thumbsup

2) I did seriously look into doing this but found that it was way too cost prohibitive for the amount of performance or sound you get from this conversion. The best source to get OEM E46 M3 CSL parts comes from CA Technologies International and they are located in Great Britain. The cost for the OEM CSL Airbox kit is $8,318.01 and that's before having to pay for shipping back here... but then you get this :drool

Here's their link: http://www.ca-int.co.uk/single_prod-cHJvZF9pZD0yMDg3JmNhcl9tYWtlPWJtdyZjYXJfdHlwZT1lND ZtJmNhdF9pZD0xMjkmY29tcF9pZD02Ng==.html (http://www.ca-int.co.uk/single_prod-cHJvZF9pZD0yMDg3JmNhcl9tYWtlPWJtdyZjYXJfdHlwZT1lND ZtJmNhdF9pZD0xMjkmY29tcF9pZD02Ng==.html)

http://i395.photobucket.com/albums/pp37/macdctr/M3/ScreenShot2013-07-29at90007PM_zpsa96e07b4.png

For about the same price (a few hundred dollars more) I can get so much more horsepower and acceleration and get the ESS VT2-550 supercharger kit for $8,790..... but then you get this...:)

http://i395.photobucket.com/albums/pp37/macdctr/M3/ScreenShot2013-07-29at91052PM_zps1067eaa8.png

You don't get quite the sound of the CSL airbox but wow! You will see the difference in performance. Unfortunately I'm under the mind set of ensuring I am able to stop adequately first before getting the "go-fast" so StopTech Trophy series is the next big mod in store for the ///M before getting this kit :thumbsup

You can see pricing here:
http://i395.photobucket.com/albums/pp37/macdctr/M3/ScreenShot2013-07-29at91909PM_zpsbcbd222d.png

I've already decided the ultimate destination for both my ZHP and ///M will be boosting them but unfortunately it will take me some time before getting there since my daughter will be starting college this fall. My priority has to be getting my daughter through college first, then I have the rest of my life to play...;) It will be a journey for both cars but that's what will make things interesting :thumbsup Glad to see you here finally!

no such product for the 330

You would have to choose the ST series (not the ST-R) unless you can convince them to do a custom build

AND

At least when I was going through all this a few years ago, Stoptech didn't offer a rear 330 kit at all...thus why I started the swap to M3 rear end...so I could get the ST-R brakes

The problem with going to this is I can't use my side impact air bags on the door but the BMW performance seats will have side impact air bags. I'll have to find out how to wire them up so they will properly function in place of my regular side impact air bags..

Because Charlie.
He continues to make his cars unique. I don't see him going any other route other than Performance Seats.

Getting the airbags to work in those seats in an E46 is going to be nearly impossible. Although, I guess he could reroute the system from the door SIPS and make it connect to the seat based SIPS

Do you man but I just have to think that $4k could go elsewhere and go a long way at that. They are LITERALLY just recaro sportsters with BMW performance stitched into the headrest.

John, I won't be taking my ///M for this meet...I'll be driving my ZHP for the meet. Still....I have been modding the heck out of my daily driver as well...:)

@ Derek, I'm leaning on getting the Recaro Sportster CS in black leather w/ carbon backshell heated over the BMW Performance seats....I will still have over $1k left in my pockets and have an awesome set of seats to boot....:thumbsup

Charlie tried to get me in that group buy. I've wanted the part he's looking at for a while now but just don't have the money at the moment because I keep spending it on the older cars. Seven BBS wheels I didn't exactly "need" in the recent past, plus powdercoating and polishing, plus tires didn't help anything ;)

those will look sharp

It is a good thing you keep the M in the garage - I have seen quite a few cars with aftermarket CF roofs where the resin yellows and cracks.

So try to limit exposure to long term sun...garage, dark, cover, shade...I don't mean hours or even days...I mean all the time.

You could ask the bodyshop that installs to add a layer of clear that protects against UV

does your car have a sunroof?

If so, you will need a new headliner. Or you could make it perfect and have a headliner wrapped in Alcantara.

I love the look....I have meant for ages to pull my headliner again and wrap it

Stuart, I will have another UVcoat added to the roof panel when it is installed :thumbsup

As for exposure, yes... I plan to limit the amount of exposure and have a car cover to place over to further protect the surface of the new roof. I don't think there will be issues regarding leaks after it gets mounted onto my ///M. I have heard absolutely no issues regarding use of Evolve's CF Roof. :thumbsup

I will be getting a brand new headliner for the ///M when I mount my new panel :) ..... if only I could get the Trophy series STOPTECH BBKs for a reduced pricing.......... if only............
